Why is religion so repugnant to some people

I can see people not believing in God but why hate it?
I had two uncles neither believed in God, they didn't go to church. They were good family men and good providers. They didn't hate religion they just didn't want to hear it.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

People have done many repugnant things in the name of religion. You don't have to be religious to be an evil person, but religion has a record of convincing otherwise good people to do bad things. Not the least of which is parents abandoning their children because someone convinced them their child was a witch, or their child came out as gay, transgender, atheist, and so on. Religion is a repugnan institution that holds people back more often than it lifts them up.

Do i need to bring up history and the evil(well bad) things that religion did. I mean i don't like the abrahamic religions i could care less about them.

Each person who puts forward the idea that "faith" is a good idea is propping up the religious institutions around the world. Religion is holding back proper teaching of science, interfering with public policies, causing divisiveness, wars, terrorism, children traumatised by indoctrination, spread of aids...
However small your part is in religion, you validate the whole deal by your vote of confidence in faith. Religion causes a lot of harm, and to deny that is to deny reality. Feel free to send me a private message.

But they are the ones who are causing the issues and problems in the world and yet none of the followers really see what is going on.

The short answer from my point of view is, religion if taken literally is repugnant because of it's exclusivity and it's hatred for certain groups outside their particular circle of belief.

The sad part is if anyone told the truth on religion and gave up very good strong facts and evidence and even reports against the church. The church would always win in the end. If you take it to court however and let a judge decide. Well you better hope that the judge won't rule on a bias with church but give a fair trial. The other bad side of this is well...angry illiterate people and you know how those people act... not every smart and gun wielding.

I abhor religion for the simple reason that it teaches and supports an unhealthy, dangerous reliance upon fantasy as opposed to reality.
