If conservatives want to rail against abortions, why do I hear about adoption and foster care being so crap? They should be funneling money into programs that take care of single mothers, poor families, and orphaned children, but there's some hipocracy going on.

Well in my opinion it is a bad sign that someone is aborting because "there is no money to raise kids" - I think that's a symptom that something is wrong and the State should address it, because in this particular case abortion is really not because "I don't want this kid" but because "I can't have this kid right now".

I'm not going to comment on the first sentence since there are many reasons to abort - i.e. Some people don't want kids or don't want more than a certain number of kids, or are not ready yet psychologically to have kids.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

I mean, yeah I get why, some of these families want males who will "carry on the family line". They seem to forget though, a shortage of females makes that kind of impossible to do. Stupid logic.

Oh well I guess more males will have to be gay, which I'm not complaining about hehe

Without trying to derail the thread, I just want to add that I think the idea of the family being carried through the male lineage is lame, and an artifact of male-created legality, which means that family names are inherited through fathers, normally.

Both genders carry on family lines -- it takes two to tango, and all that jazz.

I'm not attributing that attitude to you, by the by; I understand that you're commenting on the desires of those families, and not endorsing them.

Women are not considered chattel in most places anymore, so I have no problem with taking the woman's name if it means that much to her.
