If it is your car, ultimately it is your decision. But if it involves drinking, fuck what people think, your car or not, it is not worth the risk. No one is going to pay for your lawyer, and even being a passenger in many states if you step out of the car you can get a drunk in public ticket.
I have a simply policy. I get a cab or get a ride, and I don't give a fuck if others offer me a ride home, if they have been drinking, I refuse to get in that car with them even if am not driving.
If someone gives you a hard time about that, they are not your friend. Friends don't get you involved in their risk taking.

Oh this isn't a dilemma about drinking and driving, I'd never do that, I've already decided I'm not drinking tonight whatever happens.
I rarely ever break the speed limit just out of sheer terror of getting points on my license so drinking and driving won't ever be a consideration.

Totally missed my point. It is not about who pays for what. It is honesty. I don't mind giving someone a ride even if it is out of my way. I only mind when someone acts like I owe it to them. I also hate the lying. It is not about the money.
If someone cannot accept your decisions that is their baggage not yours.

I have the same issue with former friends who smoked pot that I have had with drinking. I am not going to rat you out, but don't do that shit and drive or have it on you when you drive. I will dump you as a friend in a heartbeat if you project your risk taking on me.
The issue isn't about the use, the issue is about putting others in risk of injury and or arrest. If you want to do stupid shit and risk tickets or arrest, just don't put me in your car if you insist on doing stupid shit.
I know what people do when the get pulled over. If they have booze or pot on them, they can and will try to dump it on someone else in the car to avoid arrest. I will not go to jail for anyone. If you insist on doing either do it at home or get a ride and don't have it in the car at all open container or pot.
I have the same problem with assholes who think the road belongs to them. I am not going to speed because you are behind me in a rush. You are not going to pay my speeding ticket so back the fuck off.

Is it about the money or the time? If it's about the gas money it's going to cost to drive everyone home, then ask them to fork up some gas money. Don't be afraid to ask them for it, if they think you owe them a ride but they owe you absolutely nothing in return then fuck them, they don't understand the basics of give and take. If it's about not wasting your time, I would give them a ride this week and when you got them all in the car tell them that they're going to have to find another way of getting home next week because it takes you too much time to bring everyone back to their house. Actually.....as I'm typing this out.....how the fuck did they get to where you're meeting them in the first place?!?! Tell them to do what they did to get there, just in the opposite direction.
I wouldn't be dishonest about it though. It'll probably just end up backfiring on you. I had a date with a girl two days ago from a couple of towns over. Yesterday I'm driving home from another nearby town, and I happened to end up behind her for half my journey home (that date is probably ruined too because she thinks I'm a stalker now). Chances are slim that you'll be see them, but you just might. And if you lied to them you're not only going to have to explain why you don't want to drive them home (like you should) but you're also going to have to explain the lie as well. It's just less work to tell the truth.
