Lets not single out Christianity. Conservatives exist certainly in Islam, but also in Hindu and Sikh and even Buddhism. Women's rights in our species evolution really is new comparatively speaking. Humans failure to understand evolution in that both sexes are required, and that it is not nature vs nurture or brains vs brawn, but all are factors.
Religion's sexism exists in all. There has never been a female Dali Lama or female Pope.
Even in the polytheism of antiquity, it was quite common for the wining side of a war to take girls/women as bounties to be use as slaves and or rewards.
