Really, how hard can it be?
I checked Catholic answers, and they take your argument even further. God is good (because he said so), and God's moral laws are the only way to know what is good.
Quote:Without God, or something like God that is both authoritative and transcendent, we can only point to society’s definition or morality, or to our own personal code.
...
Believers, on the other hand, have a standard outside themselves: authoritative and unchanging. God and his moral laws—whether positive laws (specific divine commandments) or the natural laws that originate with him—are the best and most reasonable basis for determining what it means to be a good person in the first place.

I love Catholics, because they can make such ridiculous beliefs sounds reasonable.

The second point can be proven wrong rather easily. We can do research. We can make objectively true statements that say homosexuality is good, and slavery is bad, despite the reverse being stated in the bible.

Well, that is just utterly delusional. Why are they not diagnosed with psychosis again?

I am curious if Christians can explain why their god is good without resorting to "Because the bible says" Good is a relative term, even with nazis their were 'good' people. So to say God is or we are 'good' is meaningless with out some measure of standard in which to identify good.
If you take the bible out of the equation then to say God is good means as much as you saying you are good or I am good. It becomes a trivial discussion based on what a given person believes to be good.
Which again is why I bring up 'good' nazis. All it takes for one to be considered 'good' in a given culture is popular belief. For if you were raised to n a genocidal culture to be considered 'good' is to follow popular belief.
That begs the question is God 'good' given what popular culture deems to be acceptable behavior? No. But, again so what? When did pop culture EVER reflect what true good/righteousness is? Pop culture is always been about being with in the bounds of the lessor of two evils.. That is why we all eventually devolve into a nazi/ISIS type of self righteousness. The only thing is their isn't always a society or being to oppose the biggest bully/society on the planet right away,no the biggest bully's self righteousness gets left unchecked.

Speak for yourself. If the only thing keeping you from slipping into depravity is your faith in God, by all means, please keep believing. The world doesn't need any more genocidal maniacs.
Oddly enough, even though I'm a moral relativist, I haven't gotten around to killing one single person ... unlike so many theists who assert moral absolutism.

The god you worship is evil by any yardstick. He orders genocide, and indeed commits it himself. He practices collective punishment. He holds his own creation hostage to his whim, threatening us with eternal punishment if we practice the free will you allege he gave us. Those are the actions of a sociopath.
And you worship him.

This discussion of Nazi's reminds me of the Nuremberg defense. Christians ignore their personal sense of morality to follow the superior morality of God - "orders are orders".
On the others hand, God's absolute morality is presented so ambiguously in the Bible that it becomes relative morality. Every Christian is forced to guess based on his/her own instinctual morality.

What is meant by the phrase: "God is good"?
What is goodness?
How/in what way can something be good?

Christians know that their particular entity of worship cannot be judged as "good" by using the normal, modern standards by which we utilize to interpret a behavior as "good" or "bad". Therefore, they must twist words and claim that the concept of "good", as we understand it, has no real meaning.
What a line of bullshit. More mental gymnastics to cling to the idea that your sky sociopath really wants to shower you with love rather than plague and damnation.
