The most ignorant thing a christian has ever told me: Had to be at my Mother's funeral, when a priest, who would not preside told me my mother was going to hell because she committed suicide. I was 16.

There was a service for a 22 year old man from work who had died of cancer leaving an extremely young son and distraught wife.

It took the priest about thirty seconds into the service to make it all about god then never mentioned the poor young man again.

It went something like this.

"We are gathered here on the sad occasion of the death of Ben to commemorate his life"pause" and its at times like this, when we feel grief, that we can understand how god must have felt when his only son jesus was cruxcified........." etc etc.

I experienced the same bullshit when my cousin died from a motorcycle accident. I wanted to beat the shit out of the preacher.

I'm sure I could come up with some really good, juicy ones if I dug deep enough into my memory bank... But I'm going to go with the two most RECENT ignorant things I was told by a Christian. They sort of tie into each other too.

1. That left to our own devices, humans would be out murdering, killing, stealing, raping, rioting, etc. etc. He honestly said that.
2. This same guy told me that one CAN be good without believing in god, which is contradictory to what he said just minutes before this (the first example above), but that being a good person in and of itself is not enough to get into heaven. You HAVE TO accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior to be accepted into the kingdom of heaven.

Wow. Just wow.

Also, the general attitude of many Christians is just so darn arrogant. They have this look-down-their-nose-at-you attitude that screams "Hopefully some day you'll know better." They almost treat you like an atheist who will one day be Christian. They never truly accept that you're just an atheist. There's always this "one day you'll see" speech that they have waiting for you in the back of their minds. Not all Christians. But many. Yet atheists are apparently the arrogant know-it-alls. Like WOW.

I always invite the Christian door knockers into the house. My wife usually rolls her eyes and walks away as fast as she can. I can't help it. It's fun!

This man sat down, and I asked him, "What is it about the bible that convinces you to believe in God?"

He said, "The Jews wandering the desert."

Having not heard this one, I was curious, "What?", I asked.

He explained, "40 years! Following Mosses through the dessert, they just earned their freedom and they willfully and faithfully followed. Over a million of them! There's no way they would have done that unless they were sure that the man they were following had spoken to God. Think about it, what would it take for you to act with that kind of faith?! God must be real."

I was rather surprised to hear this. I thought Id heard everything that could possibly be found to be convincing and this poor bastard was taken in by a well known hoax...

I blinked a few times once he finished and without breaking eye contact, I told him, "But that never happened."

He looked puzzled, "what didn't happen?"

"None of it. Literally, none of it. Scientists and researchers have combed the area that these people were supposed to have been roaming and there is absolutely no sign that points to any part of that story being true. There's no artifacts, nothing. It was all made up. If a million people wandered ANYWHERE for 40 years, there would be mounds and mounds of artifacts that they would have left behind. 40 years? Wandering? C'mon...40 years is enough to start a new civilization in the desert. None of that is true."

He looked absolutely stunned. These doorknockers are not like our resident theists, they don't anticipate trained atheists, they're just hoping for a Christian who has never questioned their faith, or a guppy nonbeliever of the same background. This guy was not ready to have this conversation.

"You alright?" I asked.

Suddenly becoming aware of his appearance he straightened up and said "yes...yes! Well, they'll probably find the evidence soon. Science is always changing, you know..."

I've never met a Christian. So I'm going to paraphrase a Muslim:

when everyone is dead, god will ask the angel of death to take the souls of Gabriel, Michael and Raphael (in that order) and they'll cry. Then god asks "who's left". "you're impotent servent the angel of death" the angel of death answered. "go between heaven and hell and die" god said. Then he went between heaven and hell and scream so loudly that if everything would've died if nothing died. So he dies.
Then god asks the world "O world, where are your rivers? Where are your trees? Where are your buildings? Where are the kings and the heirs? Where are the the conquerors? Where are those whom I fed from my wealth and weren't grateful and didn't believe in me? To whom is reign today?" No one replied
