I am starting to hate religious people and worry about it.

It looks like a strawman. It smells like a strawman. It sounds like a strawman. Hmmm... what could it be?

I couldn't care less about the average religious person.

We do care about you, that's the difference between God's people and people like you.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Yes, those hateful atheists who *write*. Just like the Catholic torturers who would stick a heretics fork in the collar bone and under the chin to force the victim's head up. Confess heretic! Good times for God no doubt.

Angry atheist writers are definitely in the same league as those sick Catholic fucks. Not. We're the darkside?

Hahaha, what?

Which philosophy would that be?

They care in the same human way most people care for one another once they are aware of each others existence. For example I don't know you but I wouldn't want something bad to happen to you, however unless you let me know I'm not exactly going out my way to make sure you are doing well. Its the same for you I imagine, you wouldn't want bad things to happen to me (I hope) but I doubt you are particularly concerned by my daily goings on.

You have a choice, G-C. You can stop being a sanctimonious cunt any time you like.

My guess is that you never will. You are frankly the embodiment of what H. L. Mencken was speaking about.

Quote:God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos: He will set them above their betters.

Religion doesn't make you a good or a bad person, but damnnnn it makes it a lot easier to be a self-entitled bad person.

I still see good in a lot of theists, ironically I'm here trying to "save" them as part of my reason for joining, in the hope that lurkers will read what I say. And perhaps even some theists on the board may, eventually, give things a think. One theist has already had a major rethink on an issue, that's more than I hoped for when I started.

You call this caring about people?

Shit I'd hate to see how you act around people you don't care about.

RE: I am starting to hate religious people and worry about it.
I was posting on a Catholic forum at the beginning of this year, but I had to quit, because my desire to argue against their rigid beliefs conflicted with my desire to be respectful. The more I learned about Catholicism, the more frustrated I became. I can totally relate to the OP.

I'm also frustrated in my day-to-day life. My 70 year old mother is a very devout Christian. My brother and his wife and children are Christians. My sister and her husband are active Christians. I feel like I need to pretend to be a Christian for my mother's sake, and it is frustrating.

It's like being surrounded by people who believe in Santa Claus, but you are the one who needs to tip toe around their delusions.

Doodle, I know exactly what you mean.

Not only is my entire family very deeply catholic, I'm forced to take RE classes at school. I have to watch out not to be too smart and at the same time figure out how not to go insane. It's very frustrating. I have yet to find a like minded person. I honestly have no idea what I would do without the internet.

I get so riled inside that I can hardly stand it. Does anyone else ever feel like this?

No, just you, you're obviously cuckoo.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)
