Pretty much jesus is not necessary if anything because before the whole mythos of yaweh there was tons of other gods and creation myths.

the book is not meant to be literal. so any literal interpretation is wrong. "Jesus" is a fine character. "not needed"? nobody is that needed anyway.

The whole of Genesis can be picked apart by an elementary school child. If the entire creation myth can be dismantled line by line, something that seems impossible from a work that is supposedly the "inspired word of god", then the rest crumbles along with it.
