You have to already believe it's true before you read it, to believe it's true.
I can't believe anyone in their right mind who had never heard of christianity would pick up this book, read it, and say "Yes this is all totally true, all of it, and I'm going to devote my life to it".
I guess christians would claim that they would do that, and not just put it back in the freaky fiction section. I think they are kidding themselves.

The nice things at the end doesn't wash away all the evil stuff in the beginning and middle parts. Not that the last bit is candy and sunshine all the time either. It's especially egregious when you try to claim Jesus and Yahweh are the same person, so you're not left with the excuse that the guy you're worshiping is a different guy that has to be subservient to the overlord as much as you do. The "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" guy is the same guy as the "kill them for not worshiping me" guy.
I've been waiting for an opportunity to use this - seems like as good a time as any. From my YT channel, this is the powerful and revealing climax from the 2008 BBC/WGBH Boston television play "God On Trial", written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and my all-time favourite film. So, spoilers ahead if you haven't watched it in full (you really should):
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Is that a polite way of saying "stop spamming"?

Besides spamming, by definition, is when people we don't know do it. When we do it it's called bending our buddy's ear. No harm in it .. unless you find you're running out of buddies, that is.

Nice to see you going green, CD. I still have the bible my dad gave me. But I've placed it on a shelf between Bullfinch's Mythology, something my Joseph Campbell and a couple by Jung. Gives it a little context and avoids confusion when guests come by.
