I think if 4 people swore under oath that they heard an angel, that would be worth absolutely nothing. In fact, the person who called those people as witnesses would be a laughing stock.

The whole story is a good example of mythical thinking in action. Notice how abrahamic religions actually have pagan elements that explain natural phenomena. Many modern people (not only abrahamic believers but also New Agers and so on) are in fact not too far away from a really primordal way of though and cognition that implies deities to explain everything and pre-dates modern religion by millenias.

It's also a demonstration of how beliefs held for irrational reasons make the person much more likely to accept further irrational beliefs. Jumping straight to magic is a symptom of a blurring of the line between reality and fantasy I think.
I mean this as a very serious point, I'm not trying insult anyone.
