I think it's really harmful for Christianity to encourage people to listen for God's guidance in the small voices in their heads or odd coincidences. Probably at least 5% of the population is vulnerable to becoming deluded or even psychotic IMO.

A much simpler explanation is that invoking God in anything is tantamount to talking out of the asshole.
