Yep, the west is civil because of secular law, if you took that away it would not take Christianity that long to regress back into it's prior barbarity. And we still see the effects of religion in our right wing and homophobia. 

The west became civil in spite of religion, not because of it.

I'm surprised this isn't obvious to more people. It should be when you consider the Spanish Inquisition and the Crusades and then look our modern nut jobs like Pat Robertson.

Yep and that is yet another reason while I love my well intended liberal theist and atheist friends on the left, it is nuts to let every claim a religious person might say go.

If you use "never" as a tactic to keep the peace, and even ban cussing and blasphemy because someone might get offended, weeds like Pat Robertson grow.

We already have a hard enough time trying to get this country into the 21rst century and away from its bigoted past. I wish my fellow liberals would get angry at the right people instead of getting angry at those who are angry at the right people.

By rightfully I mean currently it is the biggest violator of human rights. I accept even a future if atheists became a majority we are still capable of the same range of human behaviors both good and bad.

But as it stands right now at this point in our species history hands down Islam has the biggest PR problem.

You cannot really say that it is "at this point." Ever since Islam started, they have been on the warpath, their slavetrade was even bigger than the Atlantic slave trade, they invaded other countries, they tried to force Gurus to convert or be beheaded. All these barbaric acts and much, much more besides. Islam has NEVER stopped being barbaric, because even though Christianity was terrible, barbaric, violent, call it what you will, Christians actually evolved, and perhaps it is because of Culture, perhaps it had something to do with the Industrial revolution which finally made the western world civilised. We can hate Christianity as much as we want, but at the end of the day, Christians are living in a modern society whereas the Neandarthals are still with us and they are reading the Qu'ran. They will not evolve, because their book is their guide.

No, see you still miss the bigger picture, they stem from the same God character the other two stem from. Christians had their warpaths too they called that the dark ages. And to claim the OT god is anymore nice than the Christian or Islamic god would be a mistake.

And this is also a fatalistic view that Islam has no chance of having its own Age of Enlightenment. If Jews and Christians have done it, what makes you think Islam will never do it. These are humans too. If Ayaan Hirsi Ali can be raised in that religion and still leave it. If Malala can be raised in that religion and still value women's rights and education, your view is fatalistic and does not reflect but the dark side of evolution.

YOUR options are brute force to get rid of Islam, which would be impractical, or do what Malala and Ayaan do and challenge while still valuing human rights.

You have never read any of my posts have you? I might be a newbie here, but one of my first posts was to this effect. I could go further and say that Arabs were in fact polytheists in that they followed Judaism and/or Paganism. Secondly, they were world leaders in science, maths etc, so, they had their age. Thirdly, the Arabs (Palestinians) had a clear chance of showing what they were made of when they had first refusal to have their own state, they turned it down rather than trying to use the useless land to do something with. If they don't want to evolve, then that is their problem, there is no point in criticising Christianity and then in the same breath sort of giving Islam carte blanche to do whatever they damn well like. Remember, whatever happened with Christians, especially Catholics in the past, whatever they sewed, they have been reaping ever since. However, Islam has, since the dawn of their religion has always sewed and it is getting worse.  As for the Old Testament God, you stated that they "stem from the same God character", whilst at the same time, you quite clearly claim that their is an OT God, an Islamic God and a Christian God, two conflicting statements I would have to say. And the human rights of those who are killed for either being Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, a feminist, gay, lesbian, black, Chinese, white etc. Muslims have human rights, but the moment they kill someone, the killer can forget about them.
