Why don't we know the date Jesus rose up from the dead?

Yep. The original....or perhaps "Matthew" is the "original?"

I always wonder why fundies never point to the stupider parts of their bible and insist they are real, too? Perhaps they do have a sense of shame after all?

Seriously though, some of the biblical stories are so ludicrous that it's incredible anyone believes them. Jesus rising from the dead is nothing compared to Samson killing a thousand men with the jaw bone of an ass.

Oh, yeah. What can really piss them off is when you point out that this kind of "heroic literature" is a common phase that cultures go through. The Greeks had their Homeric tales and the Romans had Horatius at the Bridge.

Fundies go ape shit when you point out that their bullshit is nothing special in the context of the times.

For some reason they feel that the story of JC was an unique event when in fact many of the aspect of his life are plagiarized from more primitive and ancient cultures and myths. They have the audacity to say that those previous religious myths were invented by Satan to throw everyone off from the truth that is Christianity.

JC was nothing more than last adaptation of the dying vegetation god which was a common motif in the ANE.

Tammuz. Adonis. Osiris. Krishna. Mithras, Dionysius. Probably a shitload of others that didn't survive the dustbin of history.

They also hate hearing that their boy wasn't "special" either.

It always cracks me up when these twits use the argument that Jesus must have been real because hundreds of millions of people believe in him. As if the truth is something that can be voted on!
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

JC has also been tied to the Romans religion of Sol Invictus. As I stated in an earlier post most of the JC story is a mishmash of plagiarized mythology. Mithra and Krishna share many of the elements of the JC story more I think than alot of the others do.

The Cult of Isis was exceedingly popular too and probably contributed to all the Mary-bullshit that was grafted on the the jesus story.

I agree Min it all just goes to show that if you took the time to look up the origins of Christianity you will see its elements spread out everywhere.

Constantine wanted something that most, if not all, citizens of the Empire could find something to relate to. These stories were common at the time and it took little to integrate them into a whole.
