Robvalue,

Morallity is the ability to spot wrongs, and act accordingly.

Sin is the denial of said morality as if we don't know better. This would a lie to oneself, and sin in its most potent form.

Nope,
The eternal being you speak of is creation and the cause of creation. With that being said a sin would offend as it is against creation, even if it is against self.

The rift is a wave that seperates you further from truth.

Sins can be accidental. All sin. The knowledge of wrong doing and the whole attempt to reform is the point.

A spiritual rift is when the presence of God is not found in the life of a person. The person becomes less than what they are supposed to be.

''accidentally''?

Ah, the new loopholes of Christianity.  Wink
Not a loophole. A means to salvation through understanding, and conscious attempt to change.

Best answer yet.

An offense against god is the first meaning listed at the above link, but the word can simply mean 'wrongdoing,' as one can see from the second definition at the above link.

That definition really doesn't make any sense. If an all powerful, all knowing, eternal being did exist, what exactly is an offense against him? How do you offend such a being?

When I was a Christian, I was taught that all humans sinned but now I realize, I don't actually know what sin is.

Thank you for the answer. Smile

How does a spiritual rift work? What happens when there is a spiritual rift between god and a human?

Do you believe that humans have to understand that something is a wrong in order to commit a sin or can you accidentally sin?

Has to do with wrongs against any, not self proclaimed saints.

It is not for us to believe in men. We must have faith in the Lord alone.

It is not for any man to issue judgment or punishment. If you have any direction at all, you will know when you are right, or wrong in your thought/ actions.

"I really believe because to be in doubt is sinful" is not the same as "I really believe because I am convinced it is true based on..." One cannot have it both ways: On the one hand advocating their religion as reasonable and supported by evidence and on the other hand condemning any and all doubt as equal to dishonesty. Since most apologists do pretend their faith is reasonable, they must have not gotten the memo that unbelief is tantamount to moral depravity, which is about as unreasonable as a belief can be.
Disbelief due to ignorance is hardly a sin.

Heterosexual, monogamous marriage, in some circles. And even masturbation is stigmatized by some groups. Why? Why is there so much restriction on one of the foundations of our species? It goes right back to control.
Have we not thrived? Do we not overpopulate? Excessive carnal knowledge outside of love and reproduction is slightly negative. It is misleading in that it gives example of wrong doing that feels good. Sorta like any addiction. It could be compared to jumping off a bridge because you witnessed your peers doing it. Blind acceptance is a huge problem today.

An offense against God as well as against reason, truth, and right conscience. Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God. In judging the gravity of sin, it is customary to distinguish between mortal and venial sins.
