Religious bumper stickers and other annoying religious actions. (rant, sorta)
May 7, 2015 at 1:46 pm
Anybody else get super annoyed at people with bumper stickers saying "Don't drive faster than your guardian angel can fly!" or "Jesus loves you"? Or people going door to door going through nonsense as to why you should join their cult-like religion? Or public prayers at sporting events?
I personally think religion should only be practiced in your own home or church. I don't want to hear about your Christianity and I know you'd start a riot if I publicly advertised Atheism.
If I put a bumper sticker that says "Jesus isn't real" on my truck, my tires would be slashed, my truck would be keyed, spray painted, egged and set on fire that same day. But, it's ok for you to advertise that he is real on the ass end of your Prius.
Also, quit making commercials for your church. It just proves that your church is money oriented, trying to bring in more people because more people means more donations. Church doesn't need advertisement, people will go whether or not they hear or see an ad for church or they wont go at all. Your ads do nothing.
For the love of all that I don't believe is holy, stop playing "Jesus take the wheel" by Carrie Underwood on the radio. Buy the fucking CD if you want to hear it.
I saw a guy at Walmart the other day giving a church sermon in the check out..... Nuff said on that one.
What annoys you when it comes to religion?
CHRISTIANITY: The belief that some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
Makes perfect sense.
Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion, and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish.

I always initially wonder about the mentality of people who resort to bumper sticker religion...but then I think "oh, xtians....of course."

This is a car I saw at my local Safeway parking lot. Someone called me a bitch while I was taking this photo of it, still no idea why.
But yeah....this is like bumper stickers to the max. Why people want to turn their car into crazy on wheels, I don't know.

How about the person that says, "Have a blessed day"?

As a guy I just unzip my fly (not exposing anything) and wait for the gasp. I then zip up and challenge their sincerity.

I can share your frustration on certain days where I've been flooded with religious nonsense, but I certainly don't want our freedom of speech taken away. If you don't want to hear a stupid song, change the channel or bring your own music with you. That Wal-Mart thing would piss me off though. Listening to people's opinions on my previous thread, I agree that there isn't much we can do, unless they break our laws and want to overstep by putting bibles on the desks of children in our public schools.
It annoys me when I see people holding signs that say, "god hates fags" and "accept jesus or burn." One thing that really pissed me off is the muslim who refused to touch pork, and filed a lawsuit against Costco. Employers should not discriminate against anyones religion, but to cater to just him is insane. You don't go apply at a casino, get hired, then say you don't believe in gambling. If you're a muslim, don't apply at a supermarket. If you're a mormon, don't apply at a strip club. You don't get to dictate how your employer runs his/her business with your superstitious garbage.
We must speak out and encourage people that we meet to research their religion, and not just have faith in whatever belief system they were raised in. Without taking freedom of speech away, the best we can do is say you must follow our laws.
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

I realized a local pizza place has a christer Muzak station in the dining area (a rock version which is funny unto itself) and I just don't go there anymore.
As for bumper stickers, I like the cheap sleazy feel they lend to the Jesus.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

That's the bottom line. They can say whatever they want and so can we. Let the people decide for themselves. That's freedom. It's what people like me devoted ten years of their lives for (well, that and good benefits and stations in foreign lands where hot chicks would fuck GIs for a freeze-dried meal that would be rejected by fast-food joints).
Just being honest.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Who cares? It's their car, they can do what they want and I can just laugh at them. You're free to put whatever you want on your car, so are they, so are the Muslims and the Hindus and the Buddhists. We can all sit around and point and laugh at the religious stupidity.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.
