Hello, Anyone interested in a debate?
RE: Hello, Anyone interested in a debate?
Did you make a request to use the debate room? I haven't seen one yet. Anyway, I thought we were having fun mass debating in here.

Edit: Ah, I see you made one through the report system.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I haven't heard back from staff about a 'debate'.  Just as well.  I'd probably lose interest anyway.

I trust everyone is treating you okay.  But if you ever lose track of which end to blow it out of I'm sure some one will be along to remind you.  =)

They are indeed. Everyone has been most patient with me. In time I will be like Kenny G. Able to blow it out and of either end and take it in at the same time Big Grin

Let me know when the staff gets back to you about a debate. I would love to debate according the formal rules with some judging. It will help me with me legal debate skills.

Was there a specific topic you wanted to debate? Or did you want to go with the well discussed imaginary friend for morality argument presented in this thread?

We already have a monism-- the monism of subjective experience. All the other stuff about world and atoms 'n' sich is derived ideas-- which may or may not represent something which is real outside the context of experience.

The question is whether there is anything you can experience that will tell you for sure what underlies that experiential monism. And the Matrix example serves to show that what you are experiencing and what is "really, really real" need not be the same. There is nothing intrsinsic to the senses and to the flow of ideas which show whether I'm in the Matrix, the mind of God, a BIJ or an actual physical space.

Hi Anima. The impact of citing your credentials is somewhat reduced when it's immediately followed by referring to our site as a sight.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

That's kind of a pointless thing to say on page 13 of a thread in which Anima has already demonstrated his/her literacy to a high enough level to be taken seriously.  Sometimes a typo is just a typing.  Oops, I meant "typo."

Yeah, not too smooth.  You can see how often I've done this sort of thing.

But, no, I'm going to pass.  I'm satisfied with the feedback I'm getting right here.  Not into scoring or winning points, just in making them.  I don't have many mainstream things to say.  I have a hard enough time communicating what I want to say without attempting to do so in an adversarial system.

I hope you find someone who will enjoy doing this with you.  I recommend Rhythm so long as no shooting is involved.

Anything worth doing will lead, inexorably, to small arms fire........

I'll throw my hat in the ring to debate the original question.... that is if we can get a good statement of what that question is.
