It does, but in this particular instance most theologians refer to the time when Satan was Lucifer and rebelled against god. This part of scripture is supposed to be a retelling of what happened that led Satan to be cast down to Earth. Verse 8 gives it away where it states: 8.And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. Indicating that he was still an inhabitant of heaven.

The free will argument is boring and contradictory. There is no choice really, accept Jesus as your lord and savior or no matter how good a life you have led without religion you are going to burn in hell for all eternity. That is like someone putting a gun to your head and saying that they will kill you if you don't say fuck you Jesus and you are a devout Christian. Some choice huh?

To destroy Satan at that time would have gone against God's will an the freewill God gave mankind. If God had destroyed Satan at that time it would have meant God was only interestd in having robotic worship. Instead He allows us to choose our own future and live our lives as we choose. Now how is it you can find fault in that.

What I find particularly interesting is that you can find LOTS of places in the Bible where "God" kills (mostly innocent) people. But you can't find ANYWHERE in the Bible where "Satan" kills anyone! Seems pretty incongruous to me. A "loving and just" being kills people like a bloodthirsty tyrant, but the most evil being in creation doesn't kill anyone!

I'd say Satan is getting a bad rap! And if I'm looking for a being to worship, I wouldn't want to worship one that has a history of acting like a homicidal maniac.

I like to ask them how they know the being who drowned everyone in the world is really "God". The only way we "know" that he's "God" is because the Bible says so. And the Bible is supposedly the word of this god. Does it really make sense that this supposedly "good and just" being would drown babies?

Imagine if Adolf Hitler wrote a book claiming that he was "loving and just" and that FDR was evil. People could have used this book to justify their belief that Hitler was a humanitarian and Roosevelt was a tyrant. Nonbelievers could point out how Hitler had death camps and killed millions of people. The believers would just say that "Hitler had his reasons. He judged them and, in his infinite wisdom, found them guilty. And after all, those people are now happy living in heaven!"

Substitute "God" for "Hitler", and "the great flood" for "death camps", and you have the same reasoning used by believers to justify the awful things done by their deity.

Agreed Thor, the atrocities committed directly or indirectly through commanding the Hebrews to commit atrocities in his name far outnumber any historical bloodthirsty figure known to man. God was more like Vlad the impaler who many believe that Bram Stoker based his tale of Dracula on. The worst thing about the biblical god was that many of his murders were done for the silliest of infractions and in some cases all it took was one person to make god destroy a thousand. It is frustrating to try talk sense to these people. The YECs are the worst! I've had arguments with these ignoramuses where they insist that the Grand Canyon proves the story of Noah's flood! They are so blinded by their belief that they are incapable of seeing what is right in front of their eyes. And they claim that ATHEISTS are "closed minded"! I can only laugh when they cite "scientists" who back up their claims and these "scientists" are ALWAYS affiliated with some creationist organization.

I have a question that may be a little off topic. I was having a conversation with my Jesus freak of a nephew recently. He was talking about how he is interested in quantum physics and tried to explain the perception people have of time and string theory and other things I know nothing about. At one point I said something about the earth being 4 billion years old or so then he piped up and said 'I believe the earth is only 6000 years old because our perception of time is wrong.' I said to him 'And you're insane.' Anyway I really don't know anything about quantum physics or quantum anything for that matter, but it got me wondering if he likes that subject because it can make 'the earth is 6000 years old' argument make sense to him? Am I off base about this? Does anyone know anything about quantum physics and have you heard any Jesus people leaning this way? Just curious.

Yeah, I always point out how "scientists" who work for creationist organizations have a bias, and I get retarded responses like "You have your scientists and we have ours. I'll believe our scientists." At that point I usually challenge them to present ONE example of peer reviewed research that supports a creationist point of view. Oddly, they never address this point...
