Pope: Sometimes Husband-and-Wife Splits Become 'Morally Necessary'

Yes.  It is an improvement over Catholic attitudes of the past.  He is also giving more than permission to do such things.  He is saying that it can be the right thing to do, not just something that one is allowed to do.

"A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence."

Then he goes to speak to God, who happens to agree with every point. Then, it's official?

Well I'm just guessing here.

It's not actually that complicated, he gets a board to investigate the matter, they tell the Pope and then he decides.

It's purely a formality though, in most occasions in recent times (Pius IX on Infallibility, Paul VI with contraception and Leo XIII on Anglicans notably) the Pope ignores them and just goes with whatever he feels like regardless of any evidence.

Popey can't be wrong, so its whatever he likes.

He's supposed to be "celibate."  WTF does he know about marriage?

So much for objective morality I suppose, when you need to download updates for your Pope mouthpiece.

Weird pronouncement from the pope, that's for sure. Where is the 'virtue through suffering' mantra ?

What God has put together, yada, yada, yada ?

By noting a change (however meager) in church dogma, strictures, commandments, promulgations, and rules, he is inviting contemplation in the flock that maybe the church is in error on other topics.

The pope is making a mistake even a 'Religion 101' college dropout wouldn't make.

No shit Pope, this moron co opts obvious statements to promote his comic book.

Sometimes it is better to get a divorce. Yep, I agree, yet he peddles a book that sets up utopia think, so when marriages do not work out they end up bitter, and or worse.

Same crap with climate change. "I have a science degree" why yes you do Pope, which makes it absurd to me that you still peddle a book that makes claims of men magically popping out of dirt, claims the sun and moon are separate sources of light, claims of magic babies born without a second set of DNA, and zombie gods surviving rigor mortis.

The reason you get a divorce isn't because a sky hero says so, the reason you get a divorce is because of mundane natural reasons, such as growing apart or financial reasons. No magic book needed to state the obvious.

Pope can't win. Upholding immoral/amoral bible bullshit is vile and offensive, yet if he faces reality and changes something, he's a goddam apostatized blasphemin' heretic.

Sucks to be pope.

Lets not single out one guy or one religion, all religions do this. Religion does not survive through testing and falsification, it survives through marketing.

No holy person of any religion has any magical insight or any real power outside what followers give them. And no, I do not even give the religions of the orient or Asia a pass either. Our species ability to be cruel or compassionate is not a patent held by one label, or an invention of one label.
