Why Did Uzzah Die For Touching the Ark?
RE: Why Did Uzzah Die For Touching the Ark?
It's amazing how people can uphold sheer barbarism as an exercise in moral instruction when their presuppositions confine them to the notion that cruelty performed by God is necessarily good cruelty. What lesson can Randy spin out of the Holocaust for us? God was teaching the Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, etc. about fortitude?

I don't want to hear it. I had a tasty breakfast and I'd rather it stayed in me a little longer

YES GOD CHANGED THE RULES!!!

That is why we are called Christians and not OT JEWS!!!

Praise be to our steadfast and eternal lord, unchanging since the beginning of time.

So your saying you just now beginning to understand the some of the differences between Old and New covenant, or are you trying to force a broken criticism onto this situation?

So David gives a command for the Ark to be Moved.

Now according to the law, the Ark was to be moved by inserting two long poles made from a certain wood into large rings mounted on the outside of the box and then carried by levitical priests.

But rather than do what was commanded Uzzah and his brother provide a wagon, which again he was not a levite nor did he make the arrangements to move the ark according to the law. (which would have provided the suspention needed to traverse rough terrain.) Nor does 2nd Samuel say that the ark would have been destroyed if it had hit the ground.

The death of Uzzah put the fear/Respect of God back into David (the one who allowed Uzzah to carry off the Ark) and it also punished Uzzah for crossing a line he should not have. (Again even being near the ark let alone transporting it the way he did.)

This afternoon I was walking down the street. A group of people were guiding me to where I wanted to go. Then without warning, I stumbled and almost fell. I may or may not have been badly injured by the fall, but in any case one of the men managed to catch me. In response, I shot him in the face with a twelve-bore. This not only had the effect of punishing the guy for even daring to be near enough to me to lay hand on me (although what he was meant to learn from it is another matter), but also put the fear of respect into the others.

Now what would such a story say about me?

But you do understand that is not what happened don't you?

In the frame work of your story, you would have to make These changes inorder for it to read correctly:

This afternoon I wanted to move a priceless artifact that could save or destroy humanity. you over a long period of time instructed A very select group of people/movers on excatly how it was to be moved, and to where you wanted it to go. But rather than follow your instructions the professional movers farmed out this job to someone who wanted to move it, not training, vetting or validating those who came to help, the movers gave the job to the lowest bidder. Then without warning, (and because the cheap labor did not follow the instructions) the priceless heirloom began to fall. It may or may not have been badly injured by the fall, but in any case one of the men managed to catch it. then as a consenquence, a boobie trap was triggered and with the force of a twelve-bore shot gun, the man's face was removed.. This not only had the effect of punishing the guy for even daring to be near enough to me to lay hand on something he was not qualified to move. (although what he was meant to learn from it is another matter), but also put the fear of respect into the orginal movers, to follow your directions more closly next time.

Now what would such a story say about me?

To answer this question, it says you did what you were supposed to, but those who you left in charge failed to make the necessary safty arrangements to properly move your dangerous cargo

So we agree it didn't happen. Great - definite improvement.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

But yeah, he got told not to touch holy stuff. No excuses ever, just as there is no excuses for sin ever. The idea is to show that even if something horrible would happen, you don't sin to prevent it.

And this god has such an inconsistent methodology. He does a mystical smite to Uzzah, but he uses water to drown everyone on Earth in Genesis. Why use a flood in one, and a magical smite in the other?

Using god logic, god should have sent  a torrential flood and drowned everyone in the valley after Uzzah touched the ark.

They have got an explanation for that one; God swore he would never again flood the world with water in the Rainbow Covenant sealed with Noah after the flood.

It doesn't rule out other forms of smiting the entire world, just water Cool Smiting individuals with water too is still on the table.

Ah yes, you use cheap labor and it's the cheap labor that dies, not you.  That'll learn you to move it yourself.  Right?  Now where can I find some cheap labor?

Well that's pretty fucking sad!, and I'm on the outside!

Once again I highly recommend "The Bible Unearthed" by Israel Finkelstein.  A little heavy on the archaeology but it is necessary as archaeology is what shows the bible story to be nothing but horseshit.

RE: Why Did Uzzah Die For Touching the Ark?
The ark had been in the Levite's Abinadab's house for twenty years.   Uzzah was Abinadab's son but it's unclear if he was a priest.  As another poster pointed out, the transport was not being done by the established procedures but since it hadn't been moved in twenty years the team wasn't up on the old rules.  They were trying to save their backs by using the new technology of a ox-powered wheeled vehicle.  The lesson seems to be that they should have stuck with the previous century's method of manual labor.  That's why religion has been a drag on human progress for thousands of years.
