Haha! Thanks Min. Thanks for that, lol.

I'll say one more thing then I'll drop it!
This is the definition I found for contraception:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/contraception
Quote:the deliberate prevention of conception or impregnation by any of various drugs, techniques, or devices; birth control.
Also:
http://www.webmd.boots.com/contraception/rhythm-method
Quote:Natural family planning is a method of contraception also known as fertility awareness, or the rhythm method.
You are rendering yourself effectively infertile; if you were not, the method wouldn't work! A condom does the same thing, it renders the male effectively infertile; not actually infertile.
As I said, I shall drop the matter I just find this really, really confusing. It seems to be a loophole, and I'm not sure how god feels about those

Yes, I will clarify.
From a theological perspective, when we Catholics say contraception we are talking about means which actually change the sex act itself in order to render it infertile. Refraining from sex on fertile days does not fall into that category. It is a form of birth control in the sense that we are avoiding pregnancy, but it does not fall under this definition of contraception.
Semantics aside, I hope I was able to clear up what our views are in regards to this issue.

Thanks for explaining
I'm afraid it makes absolutely no sense to me, but I respect that it makes sense to you!
I have a more general question:
What exactly happens when someone masturbates? Is god getting angry or upset? Is he chalking it up as a mark against you?
Edit: If I remember right, all the doctrine about masturbation and contraception are based on a wild misinterpretation of the Old Testament story of Onan.

Last I checked, the pill didn't change much of the sex act itself in order to render it infertile...Why not use that one?

Because it doesn't fit the rhythm of the rhetoric.

@All
One final thought:
Either you're making an attempt to stop getting pregnant, or you're not. The idea that god would be watching closely and getting upset if you use one method but not another seems too bizarre for words. Or is the idea that you are fooling god, that he still thinks you're trying to get pregnant?
He's going to have to figure out how to deal with me. I've had a vasectomy, so presumably that was a sin. But now I can have sex as much as I want knowing I'm not going to get my wife pregnant. Is each one of those a sin as well? Or did I get away with all of them for just one sin?
Who cares anyway? I can just go to confessional after each time and then I'm sorted. No one has actually been hurt, apart from god's feelings, and really he should be able to cope.

None of it makes any sense. Like most religious dogma and logic, it is self defeating and contradictory when you actually stop and think about it for a second, and that's just at a 'human' level. Why any sort of omni-faceted being would even give a shit about any of this has never been explained to me.

This "sin" thing is just too confusing.
Is it god getting upset, or us getting upset because we didn't follow god, or god calmly writing down what you did in the naughty book, or what?
If it's us getting upset, but no one has actually been hurt, then that is silly. If it's god getting upset, then that is even more silly. What's his problem? Why's he such a lightweight?
"I know what you did just then doesn't actually hurt anyone, but I don't want you doing it anyway! I'm very upset and I'm writing it down. You better hope you don't get killed before you get to confessional, or else no heaven for you."
Does that sound like an all powerful being or a toddler tantrum? I'm not voting for him either way.

It changes sex in the sense that it renders the act infertile, when it otherwise would be fertile.
And honestly, I wouldn't use any sort of hormonal birth control even if I didn't have moral objections to it. The thought of ingesting synthetic hormones for years at a time gives me the hibbie jibbies lol. Bad side effects and risk factors too. I think this way is much healthier for my body.
