You can't claim what Bush did as "Christian terrorism" or anything even remotely having to do with Christianity or religion.
Yes, he was.  That's what candidates spend so much time pandering to religion to demonstrate.  His motives?  He said god told him to, spoke to him about it, he'd prayed on it, you see.  Heaven forbid that he be talking out of his ass in the usual christer way, eh?  Religious organizations and religious people -very often- use the blanket of their faiths in order to cover for doing things that have little to do with their religion, though..that I'll grant you.  This is part of the utility of religion and religious organizations which has helped them to last so long.

Again I have to ask, if you're so quick to excuse one group...whats with the fetish against the other?

Pandering to religion?

The POPE, leader of the largest Christian denomination on earth, told him he should not start a war! Lol.

I thought I had heard all the conspiracy theories surrounding Bush. I had never heard the one about the war being done for religious reasons.... Tongue

Lol, seriously guys, this is just getting silly. Looks like a lot of reaching going on.

EDITED TO ADD.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

G-Dub isn;t a catholic.  Why would he give a shit what the pope says?  It isn't all about you, and what you believe...you know..lol.  I don;t know that you really give much more of a shit about the things that popes say..we've had the conversation..I expect it will remain unconsidered....but what does it matter? It's not a conspiracy theory, it's just some silly thing a silly man said, isn't it? It's equally silly when a muslim makes a similar claim in service of capturing more territory.

...but aren't you the person who says we have to accept that people do things for the reasons they give.......what happened to the benefit of the doubt?

Yes, end the tyranny in Iraq . . . by strengthening the hand of the Shia and creating the conditions for a Sunni insurgency and Sunni terrorism.  Bush was a schmuck, no doubt about it.  But his god must be a fucking imbecile.

Just in case anyone thinks I'm at all biased, I think all religions are stupid and potentially dangerous. Some are more dangerous than others, but any belief system based entirely on the irrational is of concern. Christianity and Islam represent just about the worst possible mix I could imagine between oral myths and horrendous books. Christianity has been muzzled by secularism at least in the West, making it scale down and refocus its tactics in more devious ways. Islam however is pretty much unchecked, and is a warning to what religion can do to a society. Be thankful that secular laws are greater than God(s) so we can have some sort of peaceful existence. God doesn't even show up for work anymore in England.

They all survive entirely on indoctrinating young minds that haven't learned to think properly yet. If that stopped, the gods would go poof.

I don't think so...

I've been paying particular attention to how often Islam comes up, and I'm not counting the times Christianity get's brought up when having a discussion with me... since it would make sense that it would.

The reason is, that the vast majority of theists that post here, and that we encounter most often in our daily lives, and that most directly effects us, are Christians.

We have no problems bashing Muslims, when they post here.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

There would still be the insane, the irretrievably stupid, the emotionally needy (especially those with daddy issues), and addicts in search of a new crutch. But otherwise, yeah -- poof.

Thanks for the honest answer. Makes sense.

Most of us are ex christians. Most of our families and friends are christian. Christians are the largest religious group in the world. Go figure.
