In what universe was that a valid response to what was said to you?

Whenever GC has nothing, he'll throw out a non sequitur wrapped in a flaccid insult.

With how little he brings to the table, it's practically a drinking game at this point.

I will say this I agree with Chad, what real difference does it make and how relevant can this question be, you can't be an atheist an believe in a god of any kind.

GC

Well, I believe in the FSM and self-identify as an atheist/Christian/Satanist. Why am I a pastafarian? Because I like the cut of the FSM's jib, if you know what I mean (and I think you do). And pasta is so versatile, what with the sauces and cheese and combos and such.

If that Rachel Dolezal chick can self-identify as a black woman, I can be all I can be too.

It's posts as quoted, (and posters like GC!) that keep JesusH coming back for more, more more! Quite a little pantheon of theist rogues we have running about!

Please. Post some more so I may further partake of your posting goodness.

RE: Simple question for Christians.
I would like to respond to the OP's question as a Christian.

I don't believe it is anymore difficult for an atheist to not believe in Jesus over any other God. An Atheist is an atheist. They do not believe in any God. However, they might have far more exposure to the God of the Bible if they are a Westerner and as such may face more opposition from those holding the Christian viewpoint . I feel if the majority of people on here were based in Syria your question might be asked differently (replacing Allah/Mohammed for Yahweh/Jesus). In my experiences, if someone proclaims to be an atheist they have no trouble with any God's. If they did struggle, they might identify as a Deist (there is one but I don't know which one)

Now, that is a well written and cogent response.

But you do understand that many Christians (read Godschild's response in post #19) believe just the opposite. And they get their opinion from the same holy book as you do.

They read Romans 1:18-21 literally when it says that everyone knows 'God' exists.

How do you, as a Christian, interpret those verses if not that in the literal way?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Do you think that atheists have a harder time disbelieving in the Christian god than other gods?

In other words, do you think we have to struggle in order to maintain our disbelief in Yahweh/Jesus, but have no struggle disbelieving in Allah or Shiva or Ahura-Mazda, etc?

No. Not necessarily struggle. But I do think most of you have to answer to it more just because most of you are from places where the people around you are mostly Christian rather than those other religions. If that makes sense.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

RE: Simple question for Christians.
While I also interpret those verses literally, I'm not as hardened as my other believers in my response to them. I believe God has made himself known in his invisible qualities through what we can observe in nature (our existence and the universe itself which is whole other debate) and from mankind's conscience. You've asked them, I've asked them, every thinking person asks them. They boil down to these four fundamental questions; origin, meaning, morality and destiny. How did I come into being? What brings life meaning? How do I know right from wrong? Where am I headed after I die?

I believe that these are the invisible qualities of God that all man knows, whether answering those questions lead them to God is another story.

Did you even have to ask? Min is an anti-religion bigot. That should be obvious to anyone.

I have a feeling Min is a much kinder, less hateful person IRL than how he portrays himself around here. In fact, I'm willing to bet he's a pretty nice guy. Not sure why he acts that way here, but in time maybe I'll come to understand him. Shy
