RE: Suicide
I've been there.

It's disingenuous to say "you'll regret it later" because you won't know, but think of everyone you'll leave behind. Even if you don't realise it, there will be family and friends who will be devastated and will have to live with themselves (probably blaming themselves for not doing more) for the rest of their lives.

It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Talk to people, get help, you can still come back from this.

That only worked for so long with me and then I realised that the guilt of knowing that I would make people feel worse actually added to my misery. In the end I needed something to live for and for me that was my research. I wanted to achieve something to make it all worthwhile.

RE: Suicide
I agree guys, I like to think of it from the point of view that everything will eventually be so much sweeter knowing you went through shit to get somewhere

I still have a long way to go. I still get wild episodes of depression (mine comes in waves, it's not constant), and actually it's kinda been playing up lately, probably linked to losing my Dad and some drama in my life at the moment I really could do without.

However, in terms of my head, things are better than they used to be and I know it can be better still. I have stuff to live for, that's what you have to find. Get something in your life that you can look forward to, however small it might be, that can bring you happiness. Sometimes you have to create it for yourself instead of waiting for it to come to you. It's hard though, I know it is, some days you just don't want to do anything and physically can't. Depression can be as much a physical illness as it is a mental one (disturbed sleep, fatigue, weight gain and loss), people often miss that.

RE: Suicide
Well, ultimately, it's your life, Shinagami, but suicide won't end your pain. It will just pass it on to someone else. No matter how it feels, someone will be affected by your death, especially the person that has the pleasure of finding your corpse. I can say from personal exprience that that last part is extremely traumatizing.

I wish I could go back in time and tell the 19 year-old me that tried to kill himself that I can control my depression and that despite the misery life will thrust upon me along the way, I can get better. Not that it would make much difference, because I clearly survived. It would have saved me a lot of guilt, though, because seeing the looks on my girlfriend's and parents' faces as they struggled to understand that I had really tried to take my life really ate at my conscience.

But if I can get better, anyone can. Sure, it's a constant and daily struggle that I sometimes feel like I'm losing, and just getting through each day can feel like I'm treading water. But I have to remind myself that there are people in the world that cope with harder struffles, and I have to remind myself that I've been through way too much to give up now. The trauma of having the image of my best friend's dead body burned into my brain has definitely been a struggle, but it's been eight years since my last hospitalization, and I don't plan on going back.

Feel free to pm me if you need a sympathetic ear, Shinagami, but you can't let the state of the world bring you down(much easier said than done, I know). But it's like Bennyboy said, "Damn the absurdity!"

Hmm. There's a limited capacity there but it's still nice to know so that I may ease my conscious somewhat. I fart a great deal, I'm afraid. I really don't want to ease up on the cruciferous vegetables because they're good for me. A man such as myself needs to maximize the good health habits to offset all the bad.
