Oh, You Talk to God, That’s Cool! I Need Some Answers

RE: Oh, You Talk to God, That’s Cool! I Need Some Answers
Good for you! There you go, that's a very sensible way to put God to the test. I'm impressed!

Of course, God has all these weasel clauses about "refusing to be tested". In other words, God is allowed to do absolutely nothing and that's still proof he exists. Yet more arguments from ignorance. But those mental traps combined with fear keep so many people in the dark.

Considering you have been wrong for 10,20,30... 50 years!? That's a big thing too. I guess after a certain point, some people think they've invested too much to even consider they may be wrong. But in poker, we call this throwing in good money after bad.

If I am over all already a good person that treats other with compassion a love why change the way I think because who I am now I'm happy with, really I am. Don't think for a moment that I have not questioned my beliefs and yes I do know there is a chance i am wrong. But I like my life and I do make good decisions. I am happy I enjoy these kind of talks with people that think different than me cus I do respect that about people, and i love meeting people like yourself that has a wide open beautiful mind that believes totally opposite than me but still will respect me and my beliefs . I love life and I'm enjoying it as much as you! [emoji6]

I'm not trying to argue with you here or anything, and I'm trying to have a rational conversation. I'm glad that you're a compassionate person, but you don't need the christian beliefs to have those type of good qualities. Not believing in a religion, doesn't equate to having to change the good qualities that are part of your personality. I'm sure you see this.

Thanks for taking the time to respond on my thread, however I hope you will see some of these logical questions put forth by me, and many others on here, and actually think about them. If you don't have straight answers for them, it's a sign that you're dodging reality to sustain your beliefs. My wish for you, is that you'll see that some day. I'm not trying to say I know everything, but if your beliefs sound insane, and are completely unjustified with practically nothing to back them up (besides that they're written in a book), then it should be apparent that you shouldn't be believing in that sort of thing.

It's alright Smile Every religious person must have a battle going on in their head between the rational observable reality, and their drummed in religious beliefs which have no evidence. "Faith" is the ultimate weasel word, it literally means belief based on nothing but wanting the beliefs to be true. (That's not a dig at you, it's a dig at the sneakiness on which religion is built.)

The thing about the religious beliefs is they are all carefully constructed to be non-falsifiable. That makes people afraid in case they get it wrong; but what it actually makes those beliefs is useless, because their truth can never be assessed. Again, sneaky. Truth doesn't require sneakiness.

We're here to support you no matter what you do, whether you stay religious or become atheist. The most important thing is you're a good person. You'll come to your own decisions. Labels aren't especially important.

Thank you for the support. It is a silent conclusion I have come to. Silent because my husband is very religious being the son of a baptist preacher. I choose not to cause problems in my marriage cus this is one thing he will never get. My whole family is religious , and I'm not sure yet how much i reject and how much I don't. Guess I'll figure that out over time. Thanks for being an ear!! [emoji4]

You're most welcome Smile You can always talk it though with me, on the forum or by private message. I understand it must be very hard when your family is so religious. You have my sympathy. I'm never going to tell you what to believe, all I do is give my thoughts and encourage rational thinking.

Well, I'm glad you're here trying to work things out. I'd suggest reading many of the arguments against god/religion, especially the near infinite amount of logical statements against religious claims put forth by fellow atheists on here that contradict reality. Most of the goofs on here like to completely ignore them, and say they know things that they don't. Maybe, watch some debates, watch The Atheist Experience clips off of Youtube. Watch how every single clip, the theist can't put forth a good enough argument for god or their religion. They all fall apart with such ease. Maybe, think about when the mormon religion was invented, and where it got its information from, and look at how Joseph Smith was a known con-man. And, how could I forget all of the biblical contradictions. It doesn't make much sense that that's the work of an omnipotent god.

Whatever position you take, at least look at all sides of the argument extensively, before devoting your life to it. There are many people to listen to out there on the internet, you just have to really want to look at them objectively. If you don't you may be believing in a con that many others have been suckered into.

I always say, people shouldn't fear to investigate. If something is true, it will stand up to scrutiny. The fact that religion heavily fortifies itself by making doubt itself a bad thing is a giveaway.

No problem! Lovely to be your friend Smile Have you read my website? I also have a load of links on it to useful and entertaining resources:
