If I were to become a Christian I suppose I'd have to follow Jesus' demands and deny myself all participation in the pleasures and pains of the world, which serve no purpose to the aim of glorifying the anthropomorphic conception of God that is laid out in the texts.

Courage friend, religion may promote violence so to does it promote peace. Judge not the sword for the action's of those who wield it, for religion is an instrument for peace just as much as it is war. Yes blame religion for violence, what a good scapegoat it makes! No need for you to look deeper into the problems that plague your world when you can just blame it all on religion, instead of the avarice of a few.

What you are now is exactly the same as you were, less than a pawn, at least a pawn can tell when it is being used.

Christianity and Islam certainly don't promote peace. Their books make it very clear that those outside the belief system deserve to be killed and/or receive a less favourable afterlife.

How would it change my life if I followed an Abrahamic belief system?

For me time is the most precious resource.

For a start I'd lose Sundays which means valuable time that could be better spent on my own research and lose 10% of my earnings which I can't afford.

I'd also have to spend a lot of time studying the Bible and trying to interpret it and apply it to my life.

I'm not one for making friends easily so on the plus side that would be easier, on the down side I prefer my own company anyway except for some really good friends so I wouldn't really benefit from it. It would also waste more of my time visiting them or helping them.

I would become more charitable though.

I don't think it would change who I was as a person though except to make me more depressed because I wasn't achieving anything in life.

Organized Religion doesn't promote peace.  They promote hate.  Hatred of anything and anyone that is different.  They then wrap it up and disguise it as love, just as their religious texts teach them to do.  Thus were born the words "Hate the sin, not the sinner!"   And "We just don't want you to burn in hell!"  

"This is a kindness," they say, as they deepthroat you with their beliefs, and THEIR way, leaving you choking on them.  That's their version of kindness.

Now there are religious people who aren't like that.  Some of them stand up to the hatred, and treat others with the respect they deserve.  They've ignored all the negative propaganda of their religious leaders.  But that propaganda is still there, and until it's gone their religion cannot be considered one of 'peace' and 'kindness'.  Not unless we changed the meaning of the fucking word and nobody told me.
