Reason 1 was why I was thinking it wouldn't work. And thanks for pointing out the old thread. I didn't know about it because it was made when I was swamped with AB stuff and not so active. Smile

Okay, well, if it won't work or simply isn't something Adrian wants to implement... that's fine. It was just a suggestion. I find it handy, because I type slowly and have that issue at times. (insert desired emoticon here)

I'll have a think about it. Does this message come up when you click the submit button, or is it automatic? Also, if it's on submission, does the form submit (i.e. is the message displayed in a new page load).

The message pops up when you hit "post reply" if someone posts in the thread after you have hit "reply". If you hit "reply" and take several minutes writing your post, many times two or three others have posted without your knowledge, which can change what your post should actually say. What this does is give you a chance to edit before actually posting if this happens.

The ones I have seen have all been when you click submit. Either one should really have a not dissimilar effect on people posting Smile

And then if people post again you edit it again...seems you'll never get it posted. :/ IT'S A VICIOUS CYCLE.

And frankly I don't want to have to hit "post" two times to get it posted.

Personally, I like things the way they are. If it can be done without annoying me, whatevs. But if I have to click twice...DO NOT WANT.

Hmm...it does seem a bit pointless. If people are that concerned, can't they just recheck the thread before they post? I'm not a fan of people doing "post and run" on these forums. Once you've posted, you should look over it quickly to make sure it looks good (the amount of times staff have to fix quotes...), and you can easily scroll up to see if things have been posted.

Then, you can either edit your post or post a new one (which should get merged automatically with the post you just made).

And go through all of that unnecessary hassle just in case several people have posted?

I already edit in responses to people often enough, and honestly it is a hassle when people respond to my uncompleted post (so instead of editing in responses to several people, consolidated into one post... I have taken to responding with the reply button to several people *just in case* my responses to them would otherwise be missed. Just look at how many of my posts have an

Hardly, all of the ones i know of either only tell you the first time or have separate buttons essentially for "post it anyway" and "edit this thing".

Quote:And frankly I don't want to have to hit "post" two times to get it posted.
And frankly I don't want to have to flood a thread with separate responses to individual people just to make sure they now they are there.

Quote:Personally, I like things the way they are. If it can be done without annoying me, whatevs. But if I have to click twice.. DO NOT WANT.

The forum is growing, and as a result things can't really just 'stay the way they are'. With more population, there is likely more posts, faster. Hence, the more people this forum attracts to be members: the more useful such an 'alert system' is.

Edit: you might notice the
Code:

between you and Eilonwwy... now assume for a moment that Ely posted between my response to you (Adrian). You would now have two separate posts needlessly, inflating post count, and making the thread longer while signatures and avatars/profiles are included multiple times.
