Yes, and atheism is also a lack of belief in god(s).

Plato's "soul" may exist and therefore there is a creator. I am a temporary Atheist and waiting for a new religous belief system based on Plato's ideals. | 1 | 10.00% | |

You can be an atheist and believe in any kind of weird shit you like so long as it's not gods

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
I don't personally believe in souls, but it is completely possible for people to believe in souls and be atheists.
Atheism is just the lack of belief in a God. That is all. You could claim that a soul evolved naturally, just like physical living things. If nature created it, you don't a god and therefore could still be an atheist. How then do you explain all the books and movies with Klingons in them? Or the Klingon language? Or how I've killed many dragons in Skyrim? Re-read the shirt! As you say, we have evidence in book format, and I have personally interacted with them in my imagination many times. Only the Christians believe in really CRAZY things, like talking snakes and donkeys, and an invisible and a "Loving Lord of All Goodness" whom their stories make sound so despotic, genocidal, and rape-y that Sauron and Melkor look like cubscouts by comparison. Like I said, dragons I can believe... but the Christians are just plain NUTS!

I need evidence of the soul, first.

Let you all know there is a so-called "atheist" who truly believes that there is a "soul". I agree that if there is a "soul" then there is a Divine source (Plato/Socrates). However, as it has been proven...virtues do not derive from a "soul" so this destroys the Nihilist claim (The Plato argument concerning Gorgas' philosophical nihilism which has been converted into a modern social/political construct). I always thought that "soul" meant something different. In literature for example, I always hear people use the word "soul", but they usually mean something different from a literal "soul"....to them soul means "personality".... or to them it means what make a person a human-being...being compassionate, having empathy, etc. |
