I have heard that same exact statement many times, they say something like "well if i didn't believe in god i could just do anything to you, who cares", its a threat that's as thinly veiled as possible, their telling us if we disprove their religion, that's what they going to do, in no uncertain terms.
Religion is actually an awfully lot like organized crime, it extorts, it fleeces, it demands total control of our bodies, hearts and minds to a level that really borders on slavery and will do anything to force that control on us, but its religion so were not allowed to call it criminal.

I disagree. He was commenting about moral relativity. There was no conditional referring to his own behavior attached.

Yes. That asshat has made several anti-atheist statements along that line, suggesting that we have no values and thus will be the death of 'Murka.
This is just an exercise in mental masturbation, trying to create an extreme situation in which we are somehow still unable to say rape is bad.
It's a commonly-expressed sentiment. It's just that going into detail like he did indicates to me a very sick mind.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

yeah but actually there is, he's stating in no uncertain terms that, if you disprove my religion, this is what I will do to you.
That's what he meant when he said "if I didn't believe in god I could just do anything", then follows up with what he would like to do. I have heard a hundred variations on the same threat, almost all from Baptists in the deep south, and it is always intended as a very thinly veiled threat. and I do mean thinly veiled.

You know I wasn't recommending Jerry Lee Lewis, right?
He said he was sick of hearing the word "goodness", so I put on a song whose main chorus lyric is, "GOODNESS, gracious, great balls of fire!"

well, I admit I did think you were recommending Jerry Lee Lewis, I got the joke, but at the same time I thought there was an implication behind it that this was quality music.
which is not to say its terrible, listen to a kids coir sing blessed be the rock for five minutes, then go into a medley of father Abraham, that'll have you shoving sharpened pencils into your ears. I know because I've had to sit through it. remember in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy when the president of the art snobbling council chews his own intestines out over vogon poetry? well I know how that feels because I have had to listen to a medley of blessed be the rock and father Abraham.
