the one holy catholic and apostolic church. Will last until the end of times.
Even more sad. Nice try though.

You said the church. Were not (pulled out from Wiki) [Alonso de Hojeda, a Dominican friar from Seville, Pedro Gonzalez de Mendoza, Archbishop of Seville, and by the Segovian Dominican Tomas de Torquemada] part of the ruling power of the church? [ Pope Sixtus IV published the Papal bull, Exigit Sinceras Devotionis Affectus, through which he gave the monarchs exclusive authority to name the inquisitors in their kingdoms.] Oh wait, not Vatican? You say through "seal". Where did the "seal" come from? Sounds pretty Vatican to me. So the church didn't actually kill, they just sanctioned it. YEAH CHURCH and VATICAN!
But your assuming the church is wrong,You know what the most sad thing is,it is your atheism, your unbelief will get you no were other than hell!!!

What reason do you have for believing that the bible is true?

Ah, threats. That didn't take long.

Hell is about as scary to us as one of those plastic hammers which squeak when you bang someone with them.

Internal contradictions, lack of archaeological evidence (the flood, the exodus), no good reason to believe it's true, simpler explanations (men lie, make things up, are mistaken) for why the accounts in the bible exist than supernatural explanations, and more.

Now, what reason do you have to believe the bible is true?

If I mock him, it doesn't count? It gets wiped from history?

Man, I've been trying to figure that out. "God is not mocked!" is one of the favorite expressions of the people from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas (literally half a mile up the street where my office was located, when I was a field biologist), and I've been trying to figure out for years what it meant.

If you don't know, WBC are the "God Hates Fags!" protesters that show up everywhere with signs and chanted slogans.
Well, actually god can't be mocked. How do you mock something that doesn't exist? People mock the concept of god and the idiocy of folks who believe in him.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

I'll keep a record of all the mocking, just in case. If he does finally turn up, I'll have something to show him. I bet he'll be just devastated to learn that someone called him a bum head.

No. "The most sad thing" is that dumb people like you waste large portions of their lives and sacrifice most of their dignity in order to please a non-existent monster. And in the end - you'll just end up in the ground, eaten by worms, just like those of us who cherish this life, as opposed to the next one. Have fun living on your knees. Tongue

RE: The Paradox of Power....
What reasons do we have to believe the bible is false? The moon is not a source of light. Two individuals can't create a healthy species. The world didn't start out as a ball of liquid water in empty space without a sun nearby. Noah's boat is both too large to function, and too small to house the number of animals and food it would take to get us to where we are.

You don't breed striped livestock by having the parents screw in front of striped poles. You don't cure leprosy by killing a bird and sprinkling its blood on a leper. The amount of slaves stated to have been freed from egypt outnumbered the egyptians, and there's no historical record of such a mass exodus.

You could make a long list of things that just can't logically happen. You can make a lit of things that are blatantly morally wrong, like saying consenting same sex adults making love should be killed, but treating people as chattel is ok as long as you don't kill your slave outright, or enslave your fellow isrealite male slave for life without giving him a wife first.

There are plenty of problems to be had with the bible. Plenty of reasons not to follow it, including the fact that we have evidence of Yahweh starting out as a lesser war god in a Canaanite pantheon, and Jesus' story not being original or unique to him. Virgin births were all the rage at one point. We have reasons enough to disbelieve the bible, to the point that it's commonly said that reading the bible at face value is a sure road to atheism.

There are events that can't logically happen without magic, which can't be proven to be real, as well as deeply immoral commandments and actions by Yahweh and his followers. Someone being at best slightly more progressive than the culture of the time is not worthy of worship.

Every religious dumb-ass seems like a poe to me. I guess that's the whole point of Poe's Law.
