Town or City for you?
#41
RE: Town or City for you?
I was born and lived my first four years in a suburb of Philadelphia, but my real hometown, where I grew up, was a rural town of about 5,000 in Central Pennsylvania.

I went to college nearby, in a town of almost the exact same size. I went to law school in a big city (500,000+) and had job offers to stay there, which I summarily declined; living in a city was very, very bad for my mental health, and I could not wait to get out of there. I'm in a town of about 40,000, which is right in the perfect size range for me.

I could see myself working in a town of between 10,000 and 100,000; towards the bigger end of that spectrum I'd live outside of town and commute. The job I'm in now is a 2-year appointment, with tomorrow marking 14 months, so I'm looking for a long-term gig at the moment. I'd say geography is the #1 factor in my decision.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

I want to form this in a puzzle-like sentence because I fear the government I'm under.

Here it goes :
I was born in a desert where sandstorms play
Of northern blood mixed with southern clay

Africa was there to contribute to my root a pile of hay
Invisible features with no use but that's okay !
Africa has an army that wants me so I cannot obey !

For 4 years I escaped to the Pharaoh's bay
Yet to flee to where I was born again, where the sandstorms play

For black gold & what it brings now, I stay.

I am more of a village guy. I live like 25 Km from Lisbon, so whenever I want big city thrills its quick to get there, but I enjoy the quietness of the countryside, although soon the spread of the big city might get here.

West Philadelphia born and raised? Nah, not me. Just that song y'know? Annoying but catchy and nostalgic.
