Vatican fires high ranking priest for coming out

I'm heterosexual. This is not because I have sex with women. it's because I'm attracted to women. Even a celibate man is heteroseual, or homosexual, and he felt like coming out for whatever reason he deemed appropriate. Maybe he felt he was a good guy with a good reputation, and letting people know he's gay also lets people know that gays can be good people too.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to be excommunicated just to leave the church. Even if that was the case, and he is legitimately gay, then being straight about it (lol) is at least honest. I doubt it's just because he wanted publicity. Not sure what positive outsome he'd get out of it.

First off, I don't know whether to call bullshit on this entire story because it said this guy had a partner. I thought Catholic priests were supposed to be celibate, irrespective of their sexual orientation. It might just be that he got fired for not being celibate, not necessarily because he wasn't celibate with another man. You know how sometimes the gay community loves to get an apparently anti-gay incident and fucking milk it to shit.

On one hand I want to give him kudos for trying to get the Pope to revise teachings on homosexuality, but then to me that's not what the fight for LBGT rights should be about. Getting this church to do a 180, on perhaps the most controversial issue to Christians in the 21st century, is a massive undertaking and an uphill battle. To me I just want to take their power to influence politics away. I really couldn't care less what they think of gay people as long as they don't have power.

I also say it again, I still don't understand the thought process of any gay person who wants to get cosy with this religion. Given power it would trample you into the dirt in a heartbeat and not think twice about it. Have some damn self-respect, for goodness sake. I'm gay and I want nothing from this church, I don't want their false reluctant approval and I don't want one of their child molesters performing my marriage.

Unfortunately even being a good guy with an upstanding reputation won't always save you if you come out as an undesirable. Whether this priest actually is a good guy or not.

Repressed sexuality is a rough thing. Making men touch boys despite supposedly being straight. I had a hard time suppressing my urges too, until I started masturbating. That made it manageable, aside from being the best feeling in the world short of actually having sex. And eating chocolate.
