"Work for God".

"Doing God's work."

These are odd phrases. Why does anyone employ others to work for them? Because they either can't or don't wish to carry out all the work necessary for their tasks.

Why would God need to employ anyone to work for him? Because he either needs the help, or wants someone else to do parts of his job for him.

If he needs the help, he's not all powerful. If he wants others to do parts of his job that he could do himself, surely he must know they are going to do a worse job than he would, and will use up more time, effort and resources to achieve this lesser result.

I can only conclude that he's giving people busywork that he doesn't think is important enough to worry if it gets screwed up. Or he is bored/lazy.

The one thing he seems to require the most help with is communicating.

The simpler answer is that humans work for god because he only exists through their misguided desire for him to be real.
