RE: How close have you come to committing murder?
November 10, 2015 at 2:56 am
I had a (dumb) plan in place for killing my father about 16 years ago because of all the mental abuse he put us through, and the years of sexual assault he perpetrated against my cousin/godmother that we had only just learned about at the time. I figured that with my disability, I was pretty much useless anyway. Might as well die young/rot in prison for the rest of my life than let him live. That would allow everyone else to move on and reach their potential.
The only reason why I didn't go through with it is because my odds of success were too low. Came close to trying a few times. The kitchen block of knives was generally in my reach.
It was a very dark time for me. Thankfully, I'm not anywhere close to being in the same headspace now.

Just like to point out the almost-perfect neatness of the results of the poll. Soothes my slightly-resurgent OCD, that does :3

Because 'murder' and 'killing' don't mean the same thing. Two hypotheticals: 1) You have a really amazing motorcycle that you stupidly refuse to sell to me. I shove you in a wood chipper and take the bike. This qualifies as 'murder', since there isn't a possible moral argument which makes a motorcycle worth as much (or more) than a human life. 2). You're my best friend, and you are diagnosed with a debilitating, excruciatingly - but non-fatal - disease, and you ask for my help in ending your life. To end your suffering, I break into a pharmacy and steal enough of the right kind of drugs to kill you. This then becomes a premeditated killing, but it is NOT a murder.
Ok, pontificating aside, I was once offered 3000 quid to kill someone. I considered it for a week before I declined, so I suppose Option 3 suits me best.
Boru
Maybe this is too much of a delving question but 3000 quid is a pretty crap amount of money to kill someone, why did it take you as long as it did to refuse the offer? Were you young at the time?
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
