Quote:My comment to your post asking why some structured order and a "pope" weren't needed for protestants to evolve out of the barbaric middle age phase,
There were no "protestants" in the middle ages. Luther started his bullshit in the early 16th century. Prior to that the church had a monopoly and viciously enforced it against any one who gave them any shit, check out the Cathars and the Hussites for two examples. The Inquisition pre-dated Luther by 3 centuries. Although Luther failed to reform the church he did succeed in detaching a number of territories, mainly in Germanic Europe and these, even when they differed on various pieces of dogma, were forced into an uneasy alliance by the unrelenting hostility of the church. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," as the saying goes.
By the time the Wars of the Reformation ended the general population was sick of all their bullshit and the churches lost the power to murder those who dared oppose them. You be sure to let me know when you figure out a way to strip that power from modern islamists.

I thought you were like 100 years old.

There are people out there who only believe in God because they feel it is the "normal" thing to do. This is intellectual laziness, and yes, kinda stupid. But I think for most of us, due to our life experiences or for whatever other reason, it really does just make more sense to us for God to be real. I don't think this makes someone stupid or uneducated. What it shows is that such people are superstitious twits who believe in all sorts of imaginary beings.
Consider the lunatic Scientologists. They know full well that their system is complete BS and that it was started as pure BS. But they still believe in it. The same is true for all religions throughout history. It's an obvious sign that people are mentally ill. It's easier to overcome stupidity than it is to overcome lunacy.

So are you diagnosing me as being mentally ill?

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

The vast majority of us would say, no, not clinically.

Cognitively deficient, but not necessarily mentally ill.

Mmmhmmm. I see how it is. Everyone who doesn't have the same views as myself regarding the existence of god(s) must be mentally ill (though not clinically) and cognitively deficient.

No, only those who have had a decent education in modern science and still chooses to believe in God are cognitively deficient or insane. Otherwise they are simply uneducated, or undereducated, or were bamboozled when told what they had qualified as education befitting a society almost 4 centuries beyond the start of the Age of Enlightenment.

So the correct thing is this, everyone who doesn't have the same views as yourself regarding the existence of god(s), are either cognitively deficient/insane, OR they are uneducated and ignorant. Gotcha.
Isn't that the attitude YOU guys claim to hate when theists have it?
