I suppose any precedence could be set. There is a woman in the US who now happily sports a collander on her head, in the photo of her driver's license, so anything is possible.   FSM Grin

Agree with that CL. Just as I would like to wear a balaclava round the shopping mall if I want to. However I would expect to be asked to remove it if I wanted to enter, for instance, a bank, or indeed any other private premises whose owners were uncomfortable with not being able to see my face. Wear what you like in public as a matter of personal freedom (so long as it conforms to laws on decency etc.), but don't expect to be welcomed into my shop or house. Also expect extra scrutiny from the authorities in these times.
To that extent I disagree with the French ban.

Hmmm, perhaps shades should be banned too.

Shades don't prevent facial recognition, it just makes it harder. I don't see a lot of cases (I'm sure there's some tough) of robberies where people are wearing solely sunglasses.

I'd have to kill someone if they asked me remove my shades. Light is sickeningly painful, and I'd pitch a serious fit if you tried to expose me to direct sunlight

Banning certain clothing is stupid. I think when it comes to something like this you have to remove the religious element from it entirely and judge it on that. So if there were no religion would anybody ever ban full body clothing? No of course not.

In June last year, she was pulled over for a random breath test but went on to accuse the police officer of racism when he booked her for failing to display her P-plates.

She was charged with making a false complaint at Campbelltown police station but Judge Clive Jeffreys this week quashed her conviction, saying identity could not be proven.

...and so on.
I'm not saying I'm pro-ban, but burkas are really f***ing convenient for criminals.

I'm probably one of the more critical people of Islam on these forums, but banning burkas makes no sense whatsoever. Unless you want to ban sunglasses or scarfs worn too high or any number of things then it makes no sense.
