Idk, disney made toy story three, so I'm guessing they can do something competent. I just don't think this movie will be anything more than a boring blockbuster piece of shit, like inception, or avatar, or Prometheus, or lincoln. Just a big over budget waste of time, which won't expand my mind what so ever.

I'm old enough to have seen IV in Cinerama, and having had to wait like a month after it came out (to great acclaim) to see it. Nothing since has ever felt like that one did.
The Star Trek entry with Soran and the Nexus came close, the emergency saucer separation and landing was spectacular.
(surprisingly, I did not really care for ST IV and I rather did like ST V)
The first Alien movie was right up there too, along with Aliens.

Hell, I thought Flash Gordon was a blast, and most everyone else hated it . . .

I was almost ten years old with Ep IV came out. Had to beg my parents to go... "That's going to be a stupid movie, total waste of money" they said. Finally they relented and I waited for far too many hours in line to get tickets for what was at the time the largest screen and one of the most technologically advanced sound system in the city. Good times, that.

I just sat down and watched A New Hope with my 8 year old today, in preparation to take her to the theater sometime around xmas. She is familiar with Star Wars through watching my husband/her father play the new Battlefield game, and from things like Family Guy spoofs, but I wanted her to experience the first ones.
I will not be having her watch episodes I, II and II (I don't want her to hate the series, after all!), only IV, V and VI. A mini marathon, one per wee, until we get to see episode 7! It can't be worse than the last 3 Lucas made.....right?????
I'm hopeful. Who said cautiously optimistic? Yes, that is a good term, I'm trying not to get too hyped, so I won't get let down.

There is no way that Episode III is suitable for 8-year olds (seeing Anakin kill the kids Yoda teaches, and then later be burned alive right after Obi-Wan slices his limbs off with a lightsaber).
I am seeing Ep. VII on the 17th FYI.

I am seeing Ep. VII on the 17th FYI. Right, I just said that I would not be letter her see episode 1, 2 or 3. However, my husband already exposes her to movies that are far more adult than her age. She's watched some pretty horrific stuff. She tells us if it bothers her and we will turn it off. Usually, it is only true stories, like stuff on ID that she does not like to watch. Her favorite movies right now are Little Shop of Horrors and Jurassic World, both of which have some pretty gruesome stuff for some 8 year olds, but not mine.
