Why do Atheists defend Islam?

That sounds good, depending on what you regard as "evil". If you need to be taught that it's evil in order to believe it so, then it probably isn't.

Well, in my vocabulary -and the vocabulary of any sane person-, evil would only mean "taking what is not yours".
Plain and simple.

Examples :
1-Taking my life ? that's evil.
2-Taking my cash ? that's evil.
Etc.

Extend your mind, to realize, that Muslims do not have to be Sunnies or Shia.
Don't bring me a video; instead read the source -Quran-, and fetch me a verse that says : "kill those who commit apostasy"; that's closer to a reasonable case, if you get the verse; I mean.

In olden times, particularly the time of the Salaf, apostasy was seen as treason, hence you had the Apostate Wars, but then, for a while, the Muhammadans were actually better than Christians in terms of tolerance. It's only recently, with the rise of the cultural hegemony of the al-Saud family that you have these Fascists killing people all the time. Blame the Americans for supporting the spread of violence and intolerance around the world.

It was a religious world after all; kings and warlords never hesitated to use religion to rule; killing an apostate was a very effective way to element political foes.

And sadly, until this day this mentality of using religion to "divide and conquer" still exists. Ironically, I agree with Lenin on this one; that religion is an opium; though I believe that "forged religion" is the opium, under the Quran, people can never be led like cattle; it's what I believe.

Why do atheists defend Islam? The ones that do, because they are haters. They became atheists because they are contrarians and they defend Islam because they are contrarians. Wrong reason.

Yes, you have us all figured out, do you? And no atheist here is defending Islam. And no one here AFAIK is being PC. I'm all for shitting on Islam and its doctrines but at the same time, be real and keep things in perspective and don't harm good Muslims with hateful words.

I'd talk that way about Yahweh any day. I agree with the infamous Dawkins quote where he unashamedly declares Yahweh the worst monster in all of fiction. And I think Jesus sucks and he is actually not even remotely compassionate like many atheists seem to concede, mainly because of all the hell fire stuff.

Honestly, it makes it seem like you are accusing someone of being a racist. I think that's a bad habit that has really turned people off to the left. And the people you would want to say that to are riding around in pickup trucks with confederate flags on them, not hanging out on an atheist forum.
