I'm still not sure what an 'new' atheist even is. I've always been an atheist, long before I'd ever even heardnof Dawkin's et al, or indeed before I knew what an atheist was.

"New Atheist" is just a sly theistic notion that people are straying from god too easily and too fast for their liking, an attempt to discredit the increasing rise in atheism as some sort of new-aged fad that will die off with claims against their own that they want to disregard as having no validity prior to their popularity.
Which is better:
To die with ignorance, or to live with intelligence?

Truth doesn't accommodate to personal opinions.
The choice is yours.

OP - Ah yes, the old "Sophisticated Theology" trope. They just don't unnerstan what REAL Christians believe in!

Meanwhile, a large majority of the US population believes in a literal Adam and Eve, the great Flood, a man surviving being swallowed whole by a fish, virgin birth and zombie resurrection.

How very, very sophisticated indeed.

Lol.

New atheist = Unmuzzled old atheist in print and on the internet.

So, believers - give us some of that good old timey "Sophisticated Theology" that we may be cowed by the overwhelmingness of the awesome-est arguments! Verily! Do tell! Save us from Hell Fires, torments and Demons!

That's why I try to find out what people believe in their own words, rather than putting them into their mouths.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Oh, and in response to the OP's quoted article, it's been debunked (by a colleague of Mr Linker, that must have burned). Turns out that Mr Linker forgot to go to the trouble of defining what he was arguing for, and simply writes in nebulous nonsensical terms.

If this is what delicate considers to be good and intelligent debate, no wonder we see a plenitude of knuckle dragging from him.
