Did you leave out an "eh" in that last word on purpose?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

I lost any chance of getting rich by getting sucked in to the 404040SCAM!

I drag my hide out of bed every morning against my will, commute to a soul-sucking job where I stand in my 8x8 cubicle for 9 hours and read/create/edit documents for a fortune 100 company, for which I am paid very well. It's fun! I love it SO FUCKING MUCH.

I sell my body for crack and then sell that crack to school children. Kaching!

Actually I do high paying seasonal work and then goof off the rest of the year. I don't need very much money. I lived one year on 3000$ and once did a 6 month trip to South America on 2000$ Nowadays I live on more, but I also spend more time in the US. I've lived in Mexico and also in the third world (Mexico is not third world!) People have such a poor concept of what the 'essentials' are. Most people in the world live on this sort of budget, most people in the world share housing in a way Americans don't, most people in the world don't own cars, most people share money within familes to get by. Most people in the world, children contribute to family income or work in a way the first world just doesn't. Americans and Europeans are terribly ignorant of the way most people live in the world and what really constitutes necessities. Personally I love the simple life. Also 90% of my time belongs to me and not to some shitty corporate overlord.

I write business software for a financial services company.

Almost half goes towards taxes, medical insurance and other payroll deductions. A third of what's left goes to child support. The fraction I have left is spent keeping a barely middle-class lifestyle in my shitty apartment in the best part of a bad part of town.

I spend my money on very little non essentials, my car takes up a lot of money, i bought the car outright have and I really do get raped on the insurance cost, and on top of that petrol and servicing. I have a new born baby and I've spend a lot of money on her, I have quite a lot of savings, enough to buy a new car or enough to go towards a deposit on a house, at the moment I live with my parents or I'll sleep out at a girls house when I want to.

The basic question of the thread is how do you get money, how much do you think you need and what do you spend it on.

Not the issue. Consent on any issue is what matters. But in all of life in an ecosystem, you cannot have a a lopsided ecosystem. It does not matter what somebody does for a living. The cost of living and pay gap are the issue. Just like any other life. You have a lake or pond, and in balanced conditions, life will only take what it needs. But if any aspect of that life becomes so dominate, like toxic algae, or bacteria, any life that becomes too dominant will upset the entire ecosystem.

Life provides room for whatever we want. It gets destroyed by greed.

The simple life sounds very intriguing to me as long as I don't need expensive medical treatment.
