I never understood that "homeschooling" thing.... Is any of your parents a qualified teacher/educator? Do you get an external teacher to teach you about all subjects?
Odds are that the answer is no to both those questions... what do you learn? Or rather, what is taught? What sort of quality teaching do you get out of it?
My dad is an educated man, but even he knew that, after my 9th grade, he couldn't keep up.
He could tell me all that I'd need about insurance law, but... there was no such subject at school... there was maths, and languages, and sciences (I took the science path, so I got a few of them - at first, Earth sciences and life sciences... then in 12th grade, physics and chemistry) and labs and philosophy .... and stuff.
No matter how qualified you are on one subject, you cannot teach all others, past a certain level.

I get it that you'd be lost in a public school, but some schools have programs specifically targeted at people with special needs, like yourself. It may be worth investigating further than what your mother tells you...

I only went to school for a year from age 5-6. I was homeducated from age 6-18.

Futhermore all 4 of my siblings whom are younger than me, none of them ever went to school and all 4 of them were taught at home by my parents 5 days a week. (except holidays).

I was home educated which is why I'm insanely dumb and not remotely socially awkward (lol).

Sounds like a good plan regarding your brother. I don't know if it would be possible to request you be not home schooled anymore because of the way they are treating you.

This is why I oppose home schooling, because it places far too much power in the hands of the homeschooler regarding what the students can learn, and will never be adequately regulated while it takes place in the US. The fundamental tenet of public education is that a decent one is every child's RIGHT, goddammit! How can they be guaranteed that right when helot helicopter Mom from out of the fantasy of Hell which she has herself created has the veto on that? Being of the minor status, kids don't legally get to make their decisions, but if they have the legal right to an education then they should be given the right to enroll by request in a public school, which should be legally binding on the parents to abide with, without interference. Because it's a fucking right!

Ok, the crowded and noisy classrooms aren't best for every student, and I get that - it caused me hopeless anxiety and depression too when I was there, in a world with no decent mental health understanding, where dinosaurs roamed the halls and our principle was a 6-foot weasel.

So when homeschooling is a must, I still see no excuse for allowing stupid, half-educated and totally unqualified parents to decide on curricula. There's just absolutely no excuse for this when adults are attending college online! I really don't think the development of standard online curricula for homeschooled children is in any way too much to demand of society - what an embarassing shame this is on America that kids don't have this!

I'm taking an online course. I get all common course standards. But my mom can draft me in to a new one without my choice. (i.e. bible study). Parents have the veto on enrollment. If I'm learning about evolution in biology or whatever, then she can give me a bible studies class at the same time or make a request not to teach me that. If I were to email the teacher, saying I'm very interested in Evolution then she might override my moms judgement, but it honestly depends, there are so many factors in deciding that.

It's a loose loose, if I go back to public school then I am constantly in a situation of inescapable anxiety and doubt. I have always been very poorly focused and in an environment like public school I am no better off. With Homeschool, I am able to do it on my own time, and I have my own schedule, so if something happens (anxiety attacks or things of that nature) then I can just take a break, but at the same time I am going to be at odds with my parents 24/7 so they will be triggering doubt and anxiety. (You can see how much I have to shape my life around not getting anxiety just to live even just a little happy.) I'd much rather just eventually get the point across that I won't give in to means of religious conversion, and continue being homeschooled.

And whoever said "Positive OCD to the rescue!" Its a little more like "trying to focus on something 24/7 that doesn't give you anxiety!". I've heard of people who have learned to take advantage of OCD and cope with it to become a better person, but it seems very far fetched that OCD does anything other than harm to the abused.

Hey first of all I want to apologize to you and the forum for being a bully, and obnoxious. Spent some time away to think about my actions, and realize I need to let people be who they are, and not bombard them with my beliefs.

All I want to say, is that your parents have your best interests in mind, at least in their opinion. It took me until my late twenties to realize that my parents loved me more than anyone alive. Blood is thicker than water. Friends come and go, but family is always there for you. There were a lot of things they prevented me from doing, that I resisted. It took time for me to realise that my friends who could do things that I couldn't, didn't always end up as successful as I did. That being said life is about learning, but learning how to be a coke addict for example results in addiction, and not freedom. At the same time, it can be the forbidden fruit. Just keep in mind your parents want the best for you, and they grew up just like we all grew up, and all they want to do is pass on their lessons learned to you in hopes you listen, but honestly most of us don't, and we have to find out the hard way. We all take paths in life, and they lead to where we travel in our experience.

I'm not an addict. Just saying the forbidden fruit in general is wanting to go after what you can't have, and in the end it may not be what you really wanted.
