I'm still on post moderation and am not allowed to customize my profile. Very unfriendly toward newcomers.

Don't get me wrong.  Not everyone is welcoming of atheists but they at least allow you to join as open atheists.  Some mods really get mad if believers are rude to us.  But leave your potty mouth at home!  I got a warning for referring to someone as an *a**hole".  I sh*t you not.

Not really sure why I'm there.  Something about arguing for better theology I guess.  I don't really mind people believing what they will about gods.  None of my business.  But I do wish they didn't make the usual self serving assumptions about atheism and reflected more critically about the limits of their epistemic position in relation to knowing of God.  I've got nothing but kudos for theists recognize that the degree of enthusiasm with which they embrace god belief is not the same thing as knowledge.  I mean, at least cop to the role of faith in your belief.

You're a gardener.

I'll bet you're there to plant the seeds of reality for them in the hopes they'll grow when fertilised by all the bullshit there.

Tell me I'm wrong?

Yeah I hate that.  I wonder what the record may be for the most nestled quotes?

It is just them being lazy, they qoute have a book if given the chance. I have found it really difficult to debate the theist on that site.

Most of the time the discussion stops whenever the discussion condenses to a very simple question. Most of the question are like:

How do you know god did not command any give abortion? Usually you get something like: that is not in gods nature. And we need to point out that god does not have a problem with starving children to death or have them butchered by soldiers because of moral reasons he "might" have. Usually followed by: yes, but they deserved death because they are sinners. And yet again we need to point to original sin....and the aborted baby "might" deserve death....etc etc.

It just does not end.

Honestly I'm as motivated by a desire to understand what positive role god belief plays in people's lives as I am to de-convert anyone. It has always struck me as overly glib to chalk it up to bad science.

For me it is not diffcult to understand how it can be positive in someone's life. I just fail to understand why people believe it.
