What's funny, is that I've heard of this 8000 year old tree. It's a swedish spruce.

It's Satan up to his old tricks again. What a nuisance he is.

I'm sorry, I've put this in the wrong forum. Maybe a mod could transfer it to the religion or atheist forums please?

I have an enormous interest in all things astronomy and physics as well as that I would like to think that my mind is just naturally more rational than most others. So to me the arguements that irk me the most is generally anything regarding creationism or intelligent design combined with the always fun circular logic of "the bible is the word of god and it says that he exists, so god does exist."

I always cringe when I hear something like, "The possibility of life developing on its own is so remote as to be impossible! Therefore, an intelligent being (i.e. "God") must have created life!

And another one: The universe and our world are too perfect and ordered to have happened by chance! "God" must have created everything!
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

My favorite nonsensical argument for god's existence would have to be Ray Comfort's banana argument. This, of course, was most hilarious to me because the modern banana was engineered by man - not god. "But it fits in my hand so well!" "Yeah, well it also fits in your butt."

And if this god made bananas so perfect for man, why did he put them up on 5 metre high trees with no branches to climb?

The most common argument I hear and I've grown tired of is the complexity of the world and the universe around us. How could all of this appeared out of nothing? Therefore "God" exists. They completely ignore the question of what or who created this god? And even if some supernatural being created the universe, what makes them think it's the one they worship?

Must be because they have read it in their bible. And if the bible says it, it must be true. And how do I know it's true? Because god says so, and how do I know god says so? Because it is written in the bible.

Theists and their circular and nonsensical reasoning is beyond me.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

They love it because it's circular. It doesn't have to make sense, because when you have faith and a book in your hands you can "win" any argument.

Great point!

What cracks me up is when dis-Comfort talks about how easy it is to open the banana because "God" put an easy opening top on it (like a soda can!). If this is the case, then please explain coconuts, avocados, walnuts, watermelons and prickly pears.

I also laugh when he tells how "God" lets us know when the banana is good to eat by the color (Green - too early, Yellow - just right, Black - too late). Yeah... if this is true, then please explain why "God" would create edible mushrooms and deadly poisonous mushrooms and make it extremely difficult to tell the two apart!

Ah, Satan, that old chestnut. Er, i mean spruce >.<

One of the best one's i ever heard in regards to the old relgion debate was this.

A friend was at school (this is a good 15 years ago now) and during an RE class he asks the teacher "If this really happened, whats written in the bible i mean, why dont you teach us it in history lessons?"

They expelled him from the school for "Disruptive behaviour"......

Also, "The Bible is the word of God" they say...... "So you know its ture"..... Yeah..... but surley it was written by humans? am i right?

I thought the one posted in this thread by DiRNiS was pretty good. http://atheistforums.org/thread-4316.html

"The scripture teacher told the class that all people were descended from Adam and Eve," he said.

"'My daughter rightly pointed out, as I had been teaching her about DNA and science, that 'wouldn't they all be inbred'?

"But the teacher replied that DNA wasn't invented then."

Well, there you go! Obviously, "God" wants us to have deviant sex with pieces of fruit! Hmmmm.... Maybe that explains the cucumber and the zucchini....
