Hey, they claim that their fucking god caused it so any other lunacies they put forward are trumped by that over-riding bit of insanity.

It is.

There are mammals that live in salt water. They must surface to breath air.

Considering all the problems these same mammals would have when exposed to fresh water (such as their skin coming off), how would these mammals survive if the fresh water were to sit atop the salt water?

Areyoufuckingkiddingme?

Find me one damn salt-water dwelling mammal who has their "skin come off" on fresh water.

Oh wait, don't bother, they don't exist.

OK, the question is completely rhetorical but, being the total nerd that I am, I can't help but ask:

Wouldn't the sudden mixing of such a massive quantity of fresh water (from the "rains from Heaven") mixing with the salt water of the sea effectively kill off all fish, both fresh water and salt water?

Sorry, I couldn't help it.

They weren't fish & breathed air similar to dolphins & whales.

I suggest you do some basic research before starting with the 'areyoufuckingkiddingme?'

For your 'one damn salt-water dwelling mammal', I give you, the dolphin.

Should a dolphin spend to long in fresh water, in addition to the bouyancy issues, it's skin will begin to slough rather like the skin of a human being that remains under water for the same approximate length of time. For reference, you may start with P.G.H.Evans (1987) The Natural History of Whales and Dolphins. Christoper Helm Publishers, London.

Another reference is here: http://www.sunlightonwater.com/about-dolphins.asp

Now, after the skin has begun to slough, if the exposure continues for any great length of time, some of skin will eventually start to peel away. You can confirm this phenomenon for yourself by spending a few hours in the bathtub and watch parts of your outer layer of skin start to come away.

Additionally, a salt water dolphin's skin will be much more vulnerable to disease when in fresh water, causing skin lesions that can quickly become fatal - http://topnews.us/content/219420-tattoo-...hin-deaths.

What exactly is "too long?" If it's more than the time it took for the flood to appear and dissipate then your point definitely isn't being made here. Or, perhaps god gave all of the dolphins wetsuits.

RE: Dinosaurs and the bible
Re: Dinosaurs and the bible, first I don't think that the bible makes any mention of dinosaurs for several reasons. The main reason being the time frame given for creation based on literal readings and calculations of biblical texts puts the beginning of creation about 6 or 7,000 years ago. Dinosaurs go back millions of years and man and dinosaurs never inhabited the Earth at the same time. That only happened in The Flinstones or Land of the lost.

I have seen books that try to make a case for the mention of dinosaurs in the bible for instance when it speaks of great beasts etc. but that is nothing more than wild guessing.

I dunno, exactly how long does it take for bacteria one's body has no inherent immunities for to get into unprotected, irritated skin?

Let's see...

Have you ever taken a bath for long enough that your skin started to wrinkle and get prune-like? That's stage 1. Now, introduce friction to that skin by say, moving it through the water. How long until the top layers start peeling to expose the tender and vulnerable layers beneath? Now how long will it take before that skin meets up with some wandering bacteria?

The 'flood' was supposedly 40 days and 40 nights. I think you'll find the above would happen in considerably less time, but as I've never been inclined to do the experiment nor to torture a dolphin to death to get an exact number, I'm afraid I don't have that information for you.
