A few nutters are not representative of the whole religion. Otherwise, it would be tasteless to bury a Japanese person next to an American soldier, because some Americans were treated badly in Japanese POW camps. As long as they let a gay bar be built next to it, they're wlecome to build their mosque.

Or combine the two and have a gay bar/Mosque.Wink Shades

Update: Also a special comment by Keith Olbermann:

"This is America, dammit, and in America, when somebody comes for your neighbor, or his Bible, or his Torah, or his Atheist Manifesto, or his Koran, you and I do what our fathers did and our grandmothers did and our Founders did. You and I speak up!"

RE: Mosque at Ground Zero
In fairness, we've been building 'ground zeros' near Iraqi mosques since March 2003.

Does anyone remember why 9/11 happened? Some extreme political ideologists took offense to the American presence in various Middle Eastern locations. Oh wait, no. They hate our freedoms. Like our freedom to open a cultural center against popular opinion.

Fuck, this is all so stupid.

This whole debate is making me want to buy a "I heart Islam" tee-shirt.

I have read so much blatantly ignorant crap about this in the last few days that I want to go help build that damn community center for kicks.

I'd go help build it, but only if I could go clubbing at the gay bar opposite afterwards.
