Was there any actual investigation, though? Seems a bit wrong they threw a guy in prison just because a kid and maybe the mother made an accusation. I hope the mother or the daughter was sent to jail for what they did.

I've had four different women confide in me that they were survivors of rape. Not one of them had ever pressed charges (tragic since a guy that does it once will do it again, if crime statistics are any indication). It was easier just to move on. I don't know that I can blame them in our current legal system like the one described by Jane Doe in this case. Who wants to go through that hell? But it is necessary since this kind of crime is so often repeated. 

Given that experience (full disclaimer that this is a limited sample size of the population), that it's 4/0 for crime/prosecution, it seems to me hard to believe that a woman would make that accusation falsely. Such a person would have to be emotionally unstable or manipulated (like the example of the daughter in a custody fight) and a lie that big would be hard to maintain.

The judge actually agreed with this and lowered the sentence to 3 months, I think.

I don't believe in over punishing people. I don't think committing a crime no matter how awful should ruin your life completely. I definitely don't think statutory rape should include a lifetime as a sex offender in most cases. But 3 months for raping someone is not enough. Rape should come with a serious consequence.

Why don't we castrate rapists? Seems we just throw them in jail for a short amount of time, put them on a register when they get out and that's it. No actual punishment.

I'm of the mind that until the investigative apparatus is perfected, punishments should not be permanent. It's the same reason I'm against the death penalty.
