It's honestly not too bad. You are allowed to defend yourself to an extent, if you use a weapon to do that, it could be a little risky for you but our police seem to be sensible and understanding.

I would like basic things like pepper spray to be legal though but the laws the law.

For one I can defend myself without a gun. I do actually have a gun in my home. 

But where do these gun nuts get this idea of saving the day with their guns? It's been proven that they'd most likely be freezing up in such a situation.

I'm not sure about that, but I do know that, odds are, the guns they buy actually have a better chance of killing their kids (through improperly secured guns leading to accidental shootings) than any sort of intruder.
