Some of us are little more than a loose collection of bad habits and deplorable character traits. It's endearing, imo, lol.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

We have so much in common, Alasdair! I'll remember your kind words, you really made my day. I'm going to do something nice for someone who needs it in honor of the warm fuzzies.
It's certainly endearing in your case, Rhythm.

I like derailing the thread with praise towards a poster.
I agree about the endearingness.
You know.... I find it rather odd how it's considering perhaps a little odd and awkward to suddenly praise someone in public (whether online or offline, on a forum or elsewhere)... and yet as negative as it is considered to suddenly insult someone in public it isn't considered odd or awkward. I understand overfriendliness can be weird but I think if praising were more common than it is it would be easier for people in general to be able to distinguish between genuine sincere heartfelt praise of an individual and creepy over-friendliness.
Yeah, I know, I'm derailing and I just admitted to liking it but the amount of fucking times a derail happens due to insults rather than praise and it's considered normal (everywhere, online and offline, not speaking about AF specifically whatsoever), I just found this interesting.
I suggest this derail end now though because I fucking hate splitting threads and it fucking well better not happen over this because it doesn't happen over insults very often!!!
Norms eh? Norms are weird.

I should trust my judgement of someone's character more often! You seem an even nicer guy than I imagined! And I don't consider myself being hasty here because after publicly praising and reaching out to you just now you seemed to open up more personally than I generally tend to notice (I'm sure you do whenever someone spurs you to like I hope I just did just now ) I mean, sure I don't know you very well but it does indeed seem that you are indeed lovely. And... I really think I am a better judge of character than I thought I was. Normally I consider myself a good judge of character when it comes to my close friends but perhaps my character judging skills extend beyond that

Awww!
Thanks, but please be aware that I can get huffy and pedantic and sometimes abuse sarcasm. If that ever happens, my virtues are being easily mollified and having a short memory. People are generally as good as their last post with me.
I'm pretty fond of Mister Agenda myself.

I don't agree. Privilege in this context is not talking about the people themselves, but rather, about social attitudes towards social groups. When I'm talking about white privilege in America, I am not talking about whites in America. I am talking about the social attitudes and power structures that accord different treatment to the different races.
Climd down from the cross there. He can't put you on ignore because he's a moderator, and he cannot ban you absent a clear infraction of rules and a quorom of staff agreement.
No sense volunteering for martyrdom, kid. I suspect you'll have to earn your ban.
He has the powers to thread-ban me (this is within the powers of both mods and admins.) Secondly, I prefer you reply in a tone that is not as condescending as your post above.
Edit:
According to MyBB:
Quote:Announcement Management - Moderators can manage forum announcements in the forums they moderate
View Moderation Queues - Moderators can view full moderation queues and approve threads, posts and attachments in the forums they moderate
View Reported Content - Moderators are able to see a listing of any reported posts in the forums that they moderate and mark them as actioned/read. Super Moderators can see reported reputation and users, too
Moderator Logs - Moderators can access past moderation history to view actions taken by other moderators to specific threads or posts
Profile Management - Moderators are able to edit portions of user profiles to either change or remove inappropriate content
User Banning - Moderators are able to ban users for predefined periods of time
View Warning Logs - Moderators can see a history/log of warnings given to a particular user by other forum staff
IP Searching - Moderators can search for a specific IP address and return any users or posts that match
Anyway, it is off-topic and I did say that I am no longer going to post here since all arguments from both sides have been done to death.
You're clearly not cognizant of the moderating process here. Aside from crap like porn or spam, banning a regular, posting member such as yourself requires a quorom.
As for condescension, perhaps if the doctor doesn't like the medication he ought not prescribe it so much himself?

Trust me, I was only replying to someone who stated that a moderator cannot ban me. I am an one of three admins on another forum and know how it works.......Have a good one.
Except that that is not what I said. Perhaps next time you could include the qualifiers? Or, alternatively, actually read the entire post prompting your reply.
If you don't feel like scrolling back to it, I'll link to it when I'm back on my laptop. In the meantime, do not misrepresent my point, thanks.

You're a good guy, MrA ... damned insightful and efficient with your words. We don't always see eye-to-eye, but Hammy's words echo my sentiments nicely.

Suspecting your own possibly ulterior motives is the best way to have less ulterior motives. The least biased people are the people who recognize and admit their biases. Recognition and admittance is the first step to self-improvement.
The Late and Sometimes Great Christopher Hitchens Wrote:Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the 'transcendent' and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself. Distrust compassion; prefer dignity for yourself and others. Don't be afraid to be thought arrogant or selfish. Picture all experts as if they were mammals. Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence. Suspect your own motives, and all excuses. Do not live for others any more than you would expect others to live for you.
I agree with everything apart from the bolded parts. And I find the underlined part especially profound to a memorable extent.
I'd consider Christopher Hitchens more than merely "sometimes great" but as expert as he is when it comes to some of his opinions I still disagree with him on others and after all, like all experts, I picture him as a mammal [emoji6]
