Unarmed Therapist shot while laying on the ground with his hands in the air. Luckily for him he lived. The video is crazy, how is that reasonable to shoot that guy? If that officer isn't charged with a crime then nobody can be.

What are the implications of that? There are no consequences to police shooting someone, they can shoot your mother, sister, father or son and get paid vacation. As long as it's impossible to convict police of murder, they will continue to shoot people. It's an outrageous statistic. Like everybody else, if they fear going to prison for life, they will be more hesitant to pull the trigger. As of now, they all have James Bond's license to kill.
Personally, I am in favor of personal mounted cameras for police in such instances. I remember hearing of a place that did this, and the cops liked it, because it reduced complaints from people, knowing that they where on camera. I also agree, that if the cop is not justified in discharging his weapon, then he should face prosecution. However, if the one being arrested, is resisting, then I think that the benefit of the doubt, needs to go to the police officer. Even if the video shows that person did not have, or did not go for a gun.

Should "resisting" be a capital offense punishable by summary execution on a city street? I'm not sure what the benefit of the doubt is even doing here. Hell..imagine that -every- person a cop tries to cuff resists...then it's okay to shoot them?

No, what makes you say that?

A rather disingenuous question...I'd only quote your previous comment. Is there some other way to take it? Care to rephrase?
(do you actually read what you write, btw....honestly....that bit about the benefit of the doubt -even- in the face of certain evidence to the contrary is crazy talk...)

I had said, that the benefit of the doubt, should go to the police officer, in the case of someone resisting arrest and possibly going for a weapon. I don't see how you turn that into a "capital offense punishable by summary execution on a city street?" I don't think that one equals the other.

Firstly, you've now left out the bit about you thinking we should do that even when we have video to the contrary......so gratz there.
Secondly, you set that "however" of yours up specifically to petition on behalf of police in those instances where they fucking executed someone for resisting. Whether or not they go for a weapon was obviously irrelevant, because you would give them "the benefit of the doubt" despite them being demonstrably wrong. I even allowed for it..imagine that they all resist. All of them, every single one.

Concerning your edit: Yes, I normally do overview what I write before posting.... And even though the evidence may show, that the one under arrest was going for a cell phone, I think the benefit of the doubt should go to the officer, and the one with the authority, rather than the one ignoring it. The one who had to make a quick decision concerning theirs and others safety. I don't think that "stop and put your hands up" is that difficult of a concept for most, and that actions have consequences.

The benefit of the doubt -as to what-....there's no uncertainty, no unknown..in the scenario you offered. It was a cellphone. I don;t think that "stop and put your hands up" is difficult either, ignoring that we've vastly simplified the subject in even considering it this way...but should failure to comply with that lead to summary execution.......?

Without having read a single post in this thread including the OP, my intuition is telling me the way to end police on black violence is quite simple: race reassignment surgery. There is such a thing, isn't there?
