Ate a Caesar salad at the bar. I swear they halved the size it used to be. Yet charge the same price. And really, it wasn't that fabulous.

Just simmered 4 bratwurst that I bought at a German meat market yesterday. 2 are for snacking and 2 for a batch of jambalaya I'm making tomorrow night.
Also 1 step closer to the poppy seed pastry I wanted to make: The bag of poppy seeds is in plain sight on the kitchen counter, and there's a box of puff pastry thawing in the fridge. RE: What are you cooking/eating right now?

Poppy seed cake made. It's weird as heck, but definitely nomnomnom.
I started by soaking about 2 cups of poppy seeds in hot water, then drained them (had to use a coffee filter to get out some of the water, because the seeds were too small to put through a strainer). Combined them in the food processor with indeterminate amounts of sugar and flour (dump, sample, dump in some more), 3 teaspoons of almond extract, 2 teaspoons baking powder, about a third of a cup of butter, and an egg. Lined a 9x13 pan bottom with parchment paper, put in 1 sheet of puff pastry, poured in the batter, topped it with the other sheet of puff pastry. Baked at 325°F for about 50 minutes. Also put together the jambalaya: 1 cup of basmati rice, cooked (ended up with 2+ cups rice); 2 cooked bratwurst, sliced; 1 onion, sauteed in olive oil; about 3/4 pound shrimp, added to the pan after the onions were cooked; cumin seed; black pepper; Frank's hot sauce; a bit of seasoning salt.
Went out for tuna and salmon sushi tonight, with some soothing onion soup. I wish I could make sushi as well as I have at this one local place I like, but it just never works out right. :/
I made meatballs from scratch and joined them with some spiral pasta and homemade sauce. That was dinner last night.

Had sushi, a few wheat crackers, and a few fig newtons for dinner. I wanted to spend the rest of the night cooking. Chicken tikka masala in the crockpot, to be specific, but I forgot the tomato puree, and less importantly, a jalapeno.
Sunday, hopefully. Busy tomorrow with a hospital grand opening followed by a lacrosse game.
