I don't know how anyone could seriously think a person would choose to remain depressed if there was such a simple solution. You might as well tell an amputee to "just grow another arm".
Well, no, it's not that simple, nor am I saying it is. It's still hard to even do that. Like you said earlier, depression is like fighting with a part of yourself, this is what I'm saying as well, and this "get over it" stuff, is not meant to ridicule depression victims, but the depression itself, the part you're fighting against. You have to treat it like it's nothing until it works. At least, that's part of my method.
And once again, I am depressed even now, but I would say this getting over it attitude helps a ton. If I didn't have it, I'd be much worse right now.

This. I have depression and it's not that easy at all. A good attitude may help at times, but it doesn't defeat depression for good. It always comes back to give you a swift kick in the ribs again later on. Actually, someone telling me to "just get over it" just makes it worse. Anyone who actually has depression instead of just sadness would realize how bad that sounded.

I'm not sad, ok? I'm depressed. So stop acting like the only victim here. You don't know what I go through, just because I act like I don't, ok?

"Don't act like the victim here." Right. More things people without depression tell me every day. Thanks.

This attitude of yours just makes me think you're seeking attention. I have it far worse than you do with depression, which is why the only way to cope with it is to dismiss it constantly and pretend it's not that big of a deal(it is). You have no idea what that's like, you're still in the phase where you get offended because someone mischaracterized your depression. I'm in the one where it's so much a part of my being and it has been for so long that I can't dissasociate myself from it at all, so I just end up denying part of who I am, which only makes everything worse.

Now I'm just seeking attention. Great. More things people without depression tell me.
You have it far worse? I have no idea what it's like? Right. Because you know me so well. You met me a few minutes ago. Don't patronize me.
I'd turn that around on you real quickly because of the terrible advice that you are giving out. I'm glad it that works for you. Wonderful. Stop acting like it's a cure-all for everyone else though. It seriously grates on the nerves after the thousandth time I've heard it.

No, you're just self-pitying, and I'm telling you it doesn't help you. You're literally contributing to your own problem, I think.
I do suffer from depression. How can you tell me otherwise? You expect me to get all offended just like you, right?
Well, I'm sorry, but depression doesn't affect everyone the same. Just because I'm depressed as fuck, doesn't mean I'll constantly complain about it. Some people can afford to. I just can't. If I were to complain I'm scared about what a much darker pit I'd fall into. It doesn't take much with me.
Why do you think I'm such a wonderful person to talk to. It must be because I'm just sad and don't know what I'm talking about, right?
Try again. You're the one that can't even imagine what I'm talking about, not me.

No, I'm not self-pitying. I'm calling out the error of your advice. I'd rather not share enough details with a stranger to call for self pity. I'm not in the mood for that. I'm also not in the mood for someone to put words in my mouth.
I really don't care if you do or do not suffer from depression. I am skeptical because of the advice you are giving though. Like I said, if it works for you, wonderful. But, like you just said, depression doesn't affect everyone the same. You are throwing out the same advice that many people with depression who it does not work for hear all the time. Now go back to doing your thing and stop telling the rest of us to get over it.
